I'm hosting many challenges.

The PB&J Challenge for picture books and juvenile fiction.

The Arthurian Challenge for reading books (fiction/nonfiction) about King Arthur and friends...

The Austen mini-challenge for reading/watching two Jane Austens.

The Inklings challenge for reading four books by Lewis and/or Tolkien.

The Cardathon Challenge for reading books by Orson Scott Card. (Or books that he's recommended.)

The Celebrate the Author challenge. (Though this one isn't open to new members. But I'm 99% sure I'll do it again in 09 if folks want to keep on celebrating author birthdays.

The Hans Christian Andersen Award Reading Challenge--for reading books that have won this international award.

Heart of a Child Challenge for rereading childhood favorites.

Initials Reading Challenge for reading authors who publish under their initials.

Margaret A. Edwards Award challenge for reading those authors who've won this award. It ends June 1, so there probably isn't enough time to join and complete unless you're super-fast.

Nineteenth Century Women Writers Challenge for reading books written by authors 1798-1902. Please don't *bend* the rules more than that.

Young Readers Challenge for reading twelve children's books.
Becky, I had no idea you were hosting the challenges I was planning to join. I just had to make sure I have enough reading time to complete the challenge.
I've just created five new mini-challenges.

Here is the link you'll need to sign up:

Bronte Sister Mini-Challenge
Charles Dickens Mini-Challenge
Alexandre Dumas Mini-Challenge
Elizabeth Gaskell Mini-Challenge
Mark Twain Mini-Challenge

The rules for all the challenges are the same.

1) Read and/or watch TWO works by the author in question (Bronte,
Dickens, Dumas, Gaskell, Twain)

For example:
Watching two movies
Reading two books
Reading one book; watching one movie

You can always read (or watch) more. But two is the minimum. I don't
know that this has ever come up, but you CAN count abridged versions
of the novels. You CAN also count audio books.

2) The challenge will run through November 15th, 2008. That gives us a
full six months and a few extra weeks to read. I had considered going
through December. However, I decided with the fall being what it
is--Thanksgiving, birthday, Christmas, Librarians' Choices, and
possibly (???) Cybils, that I would not be getting much read for
challenges anyway. I figured that you'd be busy celebrating, planning,
shopping, dealing with your own chaos and drama as well. So November
15th it is.

I'm going to be super-nice especially since it serves in my best
interests. Any book you've read by any of these authors in the year
2008 can count towards your challenge. I've just read The Three
Musketeers (this past weekend!) I'm so going to count that.

*Also re-reads are allowed if you like.
*So is overlapping with other challenges.

First of all I just have to say I love this site! What a great way to bring all of us readers and bloggers together in one place to share our love for books and our challenges.

I've recently discovered the 'reading challenge' world and I am soooo addicted already. I actually spent hours and hours the other day coming up with reading challenge ideas that I'll eventually throw out there for everyone to see (and hopefully participate in). My first challenge is one aimed at getting us to read with our children. I figured with summer just around the corner we'll have some extra time with the kiddos (especially us teachers and the SAHM's) and what better way to spend some of that time than to read with them and introduce them to some of the books that we loved as kids.

My challenge is called "When I Was Your Age" and can be found here. I hope you'll be able to join in the fun but more importantly I hope you will make some time this summer to read with your kids and spend some quality time with them. The challenge runs from June 1- August 31, 2008 and only asks for 3 books.

Happy Reading!

What a great challenge idea! I won't be participating since I don't have kids to read to. But it is a fabulous idea! I hope you have lots of participants!
I love this idea!! I am just going to go up into my attic to find my childhood favorites :)
I couldn't find the sign-in link. Please count me in! Thanks, Judy

I'm adding another challenge. "It's The End of The World" Challenge

http://blbooks.blogspot.com/2008/05/its-end-of-world-challenge.html
I have yet another challenge -- just created it yesterday, in fact!

It's called the "Raved-About Reads Challenge", and you create (and read) a list of books you've always heard others rave about and thought you should read yourself, but always put off reading..."until later". ;)

The challenge starts June 30th, and will either be a perpetual (ongoing) one, or a 2-year challenge (haven't decided). The minimum requirement is 3 books, but you could add a lot more than that to your lists! (I have about 56 right now! LOL)

More info at the blog: http://ishouldread.wordpress.com
I'm not hosting any challenge -- but I love the idea of it. I'm taking part in the 888 Challenge (8 books in 8 categories, with a possible of 8 overlaps) It's been fun so far.
