Okay, as of recent I have enjoyed the entire Twilight series, The Host (Stephenie Meyer), Hunger Games (Suzanne Collins), and Tithe (Holly Black). I especially enjoy Stephenie Meyer's books and obviously can't read anymore of what she's written at this time. I really liked The Hunger Games a lot too. Tithe is the latest book I've read and I thought was lacking a bit in character and story development, but at the same time I loved the fantasy world, which is really weird. What I'm hoping for are some book suggestions. I don't like super far out there weird, but I'm really enjoying the Fantasy world (and Hunger Games & The Host are sci-fi). So does anyone have suggestions for me. I'm not overly into Paranormal. I liked the vampires in Twilight and am more inclined to put them into a fantasy category. Anyway, I like a little romance a little action, but nothing way far out there or anything that is going to scare the crap out of me. That being said, do you have any recommendations????

I enjoy books about butt kicking females. I suspect that is due to my having married one. Hmm, oddly enough so have my sons. I have listed my favorite authors. I didn't put in too many that are military scifi. Pretty much the ones I noted I have enjoyed all their books. I left out the ones that I found one book out of four I really enjoyed. I like this site to find out the order to read the books and what they wrote. http://www.fantasticfiction.co.uk/
Of course you can read reviews on some of them on my blog Pick of the Literate at

I apologize for my verbosity but these authors have provided so much pleasure over so many years I just felt I had to list most of them to be fair.

I loved these books by Elizabeth Moon.
The Deed Of Paksenarrion (3 in one, sheepfarmer, divided allegiance, oath of gold)
Once a Hero Hero #1
Rules of Engagement (sequel to once a hero) Hero #2
Change of Command (sequel to Rules of Engage) Hero #3
Against the Odds (sequel to Change of Command) Hero #4
Heris Serrano (3-1,Hunting Party, Sporting Chance & Winning Colors)
Surrender None Legacy of Gird #1 of 2
Liars Oath Legacy of Gird #2 of 2

Every book I have read by David Weber, I have enjoyed.
L.E. Modesitt Jr. has both scifi and fantasy as well.
Alice Borchardt (Anne Rice's sister) Beguiled; Devoted; Night of the Wolf; Silver Wolf; The Dragon Queen; The Raven; Warrior; and The Wolf King are all excellent.

Elrod, David Feintuch (very good stories but depressing), Raymond Feist,Eric Flint, Alan Dean Foster, W. Michael Gear, Barbara Hambly has some really great books, Harry Harrison, Robert Heinlein (a just had a bookmooch from his great neice); Robin Hobb, James Hogan, Katherine Kerr, Katherine Kurtz, Mercedes Lackey always has a good love interest and great story line; Keith Laumer, George R. Well my favorite YA vampire series is the Vampire Diaries by LJ Smith which have recently been re-released (yay) in omnibus version. Her Secret Circle series is also being rereleased which were cool, too. I think if you liked Twilight you would like these.

Have you read Nora Jones's the Hollow Trilogy? Only two books out and waiting for the third installment. Its not too paranormal-ish, no vampires, werewolves etc just one evil entity that the characters are fighting against.

Sorry just realized I typed in Nora Jones... I was listening to her CD when I wrote this note. The Hollow trilogy is by Nora Roberts. :)

May I second the recommendation for L.J. Smith? If you enjoyed the Twilight series you should love this series. There are a few similarities, but overall, I like L.J. Smith's better. She has written other series for YA that you might like that include witches, psychics and a whole "night world" with vampires and such.
http://www.ljanesmith.net/index.php is her official site and she has some free short stories available there to try. I would also recommend O.R. Melling and if you like historical feel to your books with fairies then try Libba Bray. They both are YA, but very enjoyable fairie reads.

I'm really liking Michelle Sagara West's Cast series - Kaylin is butt-kicking, the characters are interesting, and so is the world. Dragons, mind-readers, Leontines, humans, Barranis (kinda like elves?), and Aerians (they fly), oh my! Books are:

Cast in Shadow
Cast in Courtlight
Cast in Secret
Cast in Fury
(next) Cast in Silence

If you like urban fantasy, I'd recommend Patricia Brigg's Mercy series (werewolves, vampires, and she - Mercy - changes into a coyote), or C.E. Murphy's The Walker Papers or the Negotiator.

For his pure, unfettered imagination, you might enjoy Neil Gaiman, maybe American Gods. (He won the Newbery award today for The Graveyard Book.)
