What advantages are there for a book blogger in having one's own domain?  I've been using wordpress.com and really like the layout/etc., so if I upgraded it would be solely the domain name rather than a transfer to wordpress.org.  Is it worth it?

I like Wordpress.com in general because it feels a bit more professional than Blogspot... less flashy widgets, more focus on content.

When you switched to your own domain, did it affect your blog traffic at all?  Do you have to go to the webmaster tools in Google, MSN, and Yahoo to re-claim your website with the new domain, or does the site mapping feature take care of fixing the blog for search engines?

Thank you very much!

If you get a domain with your blog name, it gives you name recognition later on if you want to start a website.  It helps tie up the name for future expansion.

I am building a website-- www.bookskidslike.com -- so I started a blog on blogspot by that name.  People familiar with the blog will know that it's my website!
