Anyone love contemporary literature?

I am looking for a few blogs to follow that mainly feature contemporary authors. Authors I stalk include: Wally Lamb, John Irving, Jodi Picoult, Stephen King. Books I love include: "The Time Travelers Wife", "Like Water for Elephants", "Pillars of the Earth"... Those sorts of books. Anyone? Thanks much,

I have never read a Stephen King book...I am going to attempt Different Seasons here soon, do you have any other suggestions for a first-timer?

That's a really tough one. I love almost all of his books, but if I were you I'd start with the classics. Pet Sematary, Cujo, Carrie, Christine, It... Start with those. But read them all!

My blog may be one that you'll visit once a month to see what's there. :) John Irving and Margaret Atwood are two of my favorite authors and I really liked "The Time Travelers Wife". "Like Water for Elephants" is in my TBR pile. You may like Claire Messud as an author too. I blog about almost every book I read so mine is a mixture of contemporary, fantasy, young adult, etc.

I focus on all types of literature on my blog, but toss in recommendations for contemporary writers and books all throughout. The address is http://riotburnsleaves.wordpress.com if you're interested. Most of the contemporary authors I enjoy are postmodernists, though. Not sure what your opinion of the movement is, but I can give you a list of writers you could check out if you're interested. Postmodernism and metafiction aren't everyone's cup of tea, but it's still an integral aspect of contemporary literature all the same.

Rock on! Postmodernism was my emphasis! I would suggest you pick up some works by Saul Bellow, Don Delillo, Douglas Coupland, David Eggers, John Kennedy Toole, Junot Díaz, Ara 13, Kurt Vonnegut, Paul Auster, Tom Stoppard, Chuck Palahniuk, and Thomas Pynchon. And if you like science fiction and/or fantasy, Douglas Adams, Neil Gaiman, Warren Ellis, and Terry Pratchett are all grand choices as well. I'm sure more will pop into my head later, but I stand behind all these authors! Even though Pynchon is a chore to get through sometimes.

Love contemporary stuff...but haven't read PiIlars of the Earth, The Time Traveler's Wife or Like Water for Elephants. When a book is popular and new, it's almost impossible to get from the library if you don't get there first. And I do not like buying or using my precious bookmooch points unless I know I like the book.

But I love Anita Shreve, David Sedaris, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time, Kafka On The Shore...
