In just a few years ebook readers have gone from dull, black & white, single screen plug-in devices to color, dual touch screen,11.5 " display, internet surfing devices for roughly the same price. If the trend continues we'll probably see the no frills dedicated ereaders drop to near the $100 mark soon and I'm wondering at what price point are you a buyer?

I will continue to read Kobo ebooks from my iPhone until I get an ereader as a gift! Can't justify the expense right now.
I just bought nook... it was a huge expense, but I rarely, if ever, want expensive things. I chose nook after research and it was the book lending ability that made my mind up. I bought it through ebates.com's link to B&N so I was able to earn cash back that way at least. Again, I normally would never shell out $250 for something, but I was able to justify it in my mind because there are so many free ebooks out there and the cost of new books I would want would be substantially less. I am hoping it will pay for itself in a year or two.

I think $100 is a good price. I think as the market gets flooded, the prices on these things will come down.
I'm willing to wait a year or two for them to come down to $50-$60.
In the long run hard cover books cost more not only for the books themselves but check out these staggering statistics. Really makes you think: http://www.ereaderuniverse.com/profiles/blogs/326315-reasons-to-emb...
I'm just afraid that they won't come down in price, but will just continually improve their features and increase in price.
I think within 2 years we'll have good quality yet simple dedicated ereaders in the $75 range. Of course color screens and all the other bells and whistles won't be there at that level but for pure reading who needs them
I so far have NO desire to spend money on an ereader. My lap top works just fine for the rare times when I have to read an ebook. None of the new ereaders strike me as either sexy or useful but they all are way too expensive and still in my book, butt ugly.
I am still sticking to my windows mobile PDA. $100 is a good price but I won't be paying hundreds for one! There is a time when you have to say yourself: stop buying gadgets for a good while.
I am not an ereader buyer if I can get the ereader on a multifunction device like a netbook, cell phone, or laptop. Someone bought a netbook recently for a $100 with discount from an AT&T plan for internet access. It fits the bill for what you are talking about. It is also more functional than an ereader.
I shelled out 269 for kindle, right before the price dropped to 259. Actually, I didn't want ebook. I rather enjoy my dead-tree books (as a dear bookaholic friend called it) very much. My husband was quite insistent and got me one as an early birthday present (as in 11 months early). Now, I really like it. When I go out, I can have choices of books without having a bulging bag. I also like the freebies from amazon kindle. some are really great. Others I buy because, even though I own the print, I like the book so much, I have it on kindle too.
I was once among the group of people who was dead set against e-books and e-readers but my opinion changed when I realized the benefit of having not having to carry heavy books while traveling (back problems). I bought a Sony Touch Reader. I absolutely loved it but it died when I dropped a water bottle on it. So, I am not awaiting my Sony Daily Edition. I will let you know what I think about it when I get it.
I suppose the price is relevant to the kind of reader you happen to be, your checking account, your location. We happen to be about an hour from the nearest Barnes and Noble or any book store for that matter, and though we have a beautiful victorian library they don't always have the title we need, or even enough copies for our book club. Amazon has a great selection and price for books, but I don't like to wait a week when I am reading a series. If you love to read but don't do it too quickly an e-reader maybe a waste, but for someone like me or the rest of my book club it is perfect! It is instant (well almost), I dont' have to search and saves me money in the end! I read atleast a book a day or so, and so obviously I will get my moneys worth now!
