I'm trying to hold interviews with authors of the books I review. So far, I've been pretty successful in contacting them but I'm still new to all these. So, I'm wondering how you guys get author interviews. Do you all cold email them for it? What do you put in the email? Any tips regarding it?

Looking forward to the replies!

If you want to interview authors of best book, you can search on google: "authors" plus "best seller book". However, you can access them by Facebook, by their blog. You can search : "name of authors" plus "blog", for example: "Robert Landon blog". Next, you can add them, comment them on blog, contact with them friendly, you can invite them by email, by chat. Finally, you can ask them an interview with them.

If you want to share your opinion, you can visit : http://ShareshareForYou.com

If you don't have the author's book but would like to interview him/her, would you include a request for a copy of it in the email?
yes some media will accept ARCs or again has a submission form requesting info

Here is a very helpful post by Parajunkee: http://www.parajunkee.com/2011/02/book-blogging-101-author-intervie...

Enbrethiliel, thanks for the link! It was very helpful for me!

I've so far only interviewed authors who've made initial contact, wanting me to review their book. The best selling authors get plenty PR in the tabloids ;)

(also to approach someone like JK Rowling, would be like, approaching God. I'd be terrified. + I doubt she'd really have the time)

But a person like JK Rowling would have a publicist, right?

A person like JK Rowling has a publicist and most likely wouldn't take the time to interview for a blog (vs. the NYT for example).

However it never hurts to ask.

go to their website some have "contact me" even if it is a webform
I think by linking to other blogs it makes other authors receptive to hosting you. I get all my interviews this way and it allows me to promote my books to a wider audience.

I usually contact authors after I read their book (and liked it).

That way there is a starting point (and everyone likes a compliment), most of the time they are glad to do Q&A with me but I ask 5-6 simple questions and am more interested about marketing in the social media age.

Here are the ones I've done: http://manoflabook.com/wp/?page_id=866

I just finished doing a review for an author who I'd like to do an interview with, but my largest problem is with coming up with questions, how do you guys think of questions for the authors?  What are good types of questions to ask, obviously about the book, but are there semi-generic ones that people typically ask?
