Authors - Why do you write?

I have just written a blog post about the reasons behind why I write. It had never been something I considered  past the point of "it makes me happy" before now as I just got on with it. However not everyone is as accepting of that reason so it got me thinking harder about the reasons behind my writing and I wrote this post in a hope of explaining a few things to people who are questioning my choices.

Why does anyone do anything that they do? As much as I would love to become a best-selling author and make millions, I know the odds. Therefore, I do it because it makes me happy and anything else is a bonus.
