Blatant Advertising In Blog Comments? A no-no?

Hello all;

Just want to ask about leaving your name, link to website, and advertising in your comment while visiting and commenting on blogs.

I don't do it. However, some other author's mentioned it should be done. Other bloggers have told me that it's rude to do that, but some authors swear by it.

What are your thoughts?

Well, if it's just a name and link, then it's pretty rude. (I delete "comments" like those.)

But if someone leaves a good comment, then I take the name and link at the end as a sort of signature and don't really mind.
This is one those issues where the answer will vary by blogger. I have had people come by and only leave a link with an invitation to check ut their blog and that I believe is rude. But if you are stopping by and adding something to the conversation then I don't mind of you leave a link that I can examine for more information or what you have to say on the topic. I actually appreciate that. I think a lot is conveyed in the tone of how you do it. If you have no interest in anything besides getting attention for yourself, it shows, and then people respond accordingly. The way to gain interest is to be (genuinely) interested.
I agree with the other 2 commenters and think just leaving link to your blog as the entire "comment" is rude, but I do tend to use a link to my blog as a sort of signature and I like when people it on mine. As long as you're actually making a comment, I don't have a problem including a link to your blog, just as I'm going to do now... :)

What Red Read
Please leave a comment with some words -preferably not 'love your blog' or 'great post' - that show you've read the post and have an opinion or some contribution to the community.

Then, leave your name, your link as much as you like!

I've written a couple of articles on Promoting Your Book Blog: Comments Cheatsheets which you can find with many other book blogging resources on the same page.
"Promoting Your Book Blog: Comments Cheat-sheets" I bookmarked this to come back and read later. As a newbie, I had run across articles that I wished I had flagged. Now with a few months under my wings, I think I might benefit more by reading these.

If I don't have anything to say, I won't comment period...but, if I stumble on a new blog and have a comment to make I will comment then usually leave a link to my blog, unless there'a already a place to leave a URL.
I started leaving both my email and link to my website after I comment. Often I would want to follow up on a comment or question that someone had left on my site. It was often very time consuming and frustrating to run this blogger down. I would give up and not respond to their comment which I felt was rude. I came to the decision if I was having this problem, others probably were too so I would leave my info, short and sweet, so that if they wanted to respond it was easy.
