Blog Design Help

Hi all!

I'm fairly new to blogging and I want some design help.

1)  I use blogger and I would LOVE to be able to have excerpts in nice little boxes, how do you guys do it?

 

2)  I want a really cool design for my rating scale.  I've seen some people with coffee mugs, lip kisses, and flowers.  I don't want those, but I want something similar.  Is there any place I should go to get something like that or create something like that?

Also, make sure to stay away from fancy shmancy fonts which make your blog difficult to read (no matter how good they look).

1. That's called a block quote. Here's a quick tutorial about how to do it.

2. There are designers who can design a rating system for you (for a price). Some of them have free rating systems to use those. Parajunkee has stars for free.

Have you looked in Wordpress? I find that it's a lot more helpful in terms of adding widgets and features, you have more control (not complete control though).

Do you know HTML or know something who does?

No.  I haven't looked into Wordpress, yet.  I'm learning everything as I go.

I use Wordpress too. I've just launched my 2nd blog. I do find it easy to understand, but I did have to work a bit to get the widgets working like I wanted. A lot of people like Blogger too. It's just a matter of what you prefer.

Hi Kim,

I know how frustrated I got in the begining trying to do designs on my own so I went with the other alternative and hired someone to do it for me. She worked very closely with me and took all I wanted into consideraton and I love the final outcome. There are many people out there who will do this for you so check around if this is how you decide to go.I really thought the price was worth it-especially because of my frustration level at trying it myself.
