Blog Design Help

Hi all!

I'm fairly new to blogging and I want some design help.

1)  I use blogger and I would LOVE to be able to have excerpts in nice little boxes, how do you guys do it?

 

2)  I want a really cool design for my rating scale.  I've seen some people with coffee mugs, lip kisses, and flowers.  I don't want those, but I want something similar.  Is there any place I should go to get something like that or create something like that?

All you really need is a background and a header, as most blog sites allow you to customise your look from their own settings.

If I could offer any advice, decide firstly what look your after, something sweet, grungy, whimsy? Then start with a colour pallet. That's your base of your blog, once you have a look in mind, then it's much easier to put the idea into place.

I really don't know how the quote boxes work, as my blog is just the simple Blogspot template, just jazzed up.

The whole scripting can be a little complex, so it might be easier to find a forum that specialises in HTML coding, they could probably offer great advice and walk you through it.

I'm a new blogger as well, about 2 months. 

I use Blogger and I like it (I've heard wordpress is not free, it is free but it's limited or something though I'm not sure). I decided to see for myself if I could add a design, I don't have money to pay someone and what if I didn't like it or it didn't turn out the way I pictured. It's not that hard (though I've only changed the basics), I searched online for tips and html codes and everything, but it takes time to go through the code and decide how you want it and get the images. 

Be careful where you get the images and ideas or where you go looking for a designer. Check first if the images don't belong to someone else or they don't look exactly like someone else's. 

I'm not an expert, I don't know much but I found some ways to change the code. If you need anything let me know.
