Hey all, I was just wondering what type of blog stats people use. I use google blogger for my blog, and it comes with stats, but I don't know if I can really trust it. I've heard of google analytics, but was kind of reluctant to try, considering there are so many regulations. Is google analytics safe to use for blog stats? Anyone have any other solutions for finding out blog stats?
Thanks,
Felicia.

Hiya Felicia,
I use statcounter which breaks down your stats into some really specific information for you. There is a paid version, but personally I think there is more than enough available on the free version to give you all the info you could want about how many people visit you site, where they come from (country and search engine), why they visit (i.e. top posts, and search phrases) and so on. I don't actually pay much attention to stats, I check them maybe once a month, but I think statcounter is the way to go. It's really easy to use too!

I also use gostats at the same time, because I like it and you can share your stats publicly with the publishers if you choose to do so, so that they can actually see your stats themselves, which is neat :)

Blogger is owned by Google now, and the stats are all compiled by Google and seem to be more accurate now that they are all owned by the same company. I like Google Analytics to see when I get a surge in visits since it can be set up to email you at predetermined points. I have statcounter installed on one of my blogs, but I don't really do anything with it.
It depends on what you are looking for. What do you want from your stats?

I usually look at the stats once a month to tweak my postings. For example I noticed that I get many more views on Sundays so I changed my posting habits to accommodate readers.
You can gleam something from stats after a few months, but really after a few years is when you can get good info.
I use blogger and am quite happy with the free stats widget that I put on the page and the free stats I can see in my blogger dashboard.
I can see where my traffic comes from and chose the time period to examine.
Unfortunately, more people don't come just because I follow the stats!
