Hey all, I was just wondering what type of blog stats people use. I use google blogger for my blog, and it comes with stats, but I don't know if I can really trust it. I've heard of google analytics, but was kind of reluctant to try, considering there are so many regulations. Is google analytics safe to use for blog stats? Anyone have any other solutions for finding out blog stats?

Thanks,

Felicia.

Hiya Felicia,

I use statcounter which breaks down your stats into some really specific information for you. There is a paid version, but personally I think there is more than enough available on the free version to give you all the info you could want about how many people visit you site, where they come from (country and search engine), why they visit (i.e. top posts, and search phrases) and so on. I don't actually pay much attention to stats, I check them maybe once a month, but I think statcounter is the way to go. It's really easy to use too!

I have google analytics set up on my blog, but I am also thinking about trying statcounter to see if I like it better.  The value for me is in seeing which posts people are most interested in reading and where they go after they read the post that brought them to my blog.  Google analytics has an "in page analytics" feature that is very nice because it tells me what % of people click on different features or continue to read other posts.

Thanks all for the helpful hints! I've tried Google Analytics, but I'm not really liking it myself. Maybe I'll try statcounter. Thanks! :)

Google Analytics is really a very smart choice because it helps give you a google page rank faster.

I also use gostats at the same time, because I like it and you can share your stats publicly with the publishers if you choose to do so, so that they can actually see your stats themselves, which is neat :)

Blogger is owned by Google now, and the stats are all compiled by Google and seem to be more accurate now that they are all owned by the same company.  I like Google Analytics to see when I get a surge in visits since it can be set up to email you at predetermined points.  I have statcounter installed on one of my blogs, but I don't really do anything with it.

It depends on what you are looking for.  What do you want from your stats?

I use google analytics but I don't look at it often.  I think the blogger stats are really good enough for me.  I only use google analytics for unique visitors really.

I use Google analytics.

I usually look at the stats once a month to tweak my postings. For example I noticed that I get many more views on Sundays so I changed my posting habits to accommodate readers.

You can gleam something from stats after a few months, but really after a few years is when you can get good info.

I use blogger and am quite happy with the free stats widget that I put on the page and the free stats I can see in my blogger dashboard.

I can see where my traffic comes from and chose the time period to examine.

Unfortunately, more people don't come just because I follow the stats!
