I know this is a little early (Book Expo isn't until early JuneMay 29th to the 31st thank you Book Calendar!), but is anyone planning on going?
Its being held at the Jacob Javits Center in New York City. I went in 2007, when it was at Jacob Javits before, and had a blast. I went as an educator then however and since have left that job (to pursue my career). I'm hopefully attending this year as a Friend of my local Library, I'm not sure what I will do if that doesn't pan out...
Book Expo America that's the website with information from the past expos and such.
When I went in 2007 it was a wonderful experience. Not just meeting some of my favorite authors (and finding new ones) and getting free books and swag, but I was able to connect with members of the publishing world I wouldn't ordinarily come across. I met quite a few editors and marketing assistants plus was able to talk with industry professionals at the many many boothes. I didn't get a chance to happen down the Independents' lane as much unfortunately; by the time I was done meeting with everyone I was scheduled to meet with and my long friendly chat with one editor I only had a little while before I had to take a train back home.
I partially filled out the registration form. The cost is $90 for three days for librarians. I just wanted to see the library price. They don't list the pricing up front.

yeah educator pricing is the same as Librarian. I wonder why there is such a large difference between the groups? (Authors are slightly higher then Educator/librarians at about $130 for 3 days and $75 a day one told me).
I have the pricing chart.. It's much cheaper to go as a librarian!

Laura did you get this information from them? The only mention of bloggers I could find on the site so far is that lit bloggers have access to the media zone.

I e-mailed the people about a month ago asking what bloggers fall under and its 'Industry Professionals' according to the email (though when you go to register as such they don't give it as an option...unless we count as Book Marketing?). The guy who responded didn't say it was free for bloggers at all unfortunately.

Laura--I went to see what a registration price for Friends of the [your particular Library] Library would cost and its only $55 for one day and $90 for 3 days. I know my local one, which I am going to go hit up this afternoon now, is only $10 a year ($5 for students) to join and only meets 6 times a year. Maybe that's an option to look into for yourself?
Hi Lexie, a little late for this, but... I don't see "Friends of the Library" in the pricing... Could you tell me where I could find that? BTW, have a GREAT time! I am sooo jealous :D! I originally was going to go as a blogger, but $295 was just too much, but I would have gone for $55! I live about an hour away from NYC!
Suzanne--its under 'non-profit associations' you'll need the 501C3 Number and it costs $90 for the three days or $55 for a one day pass. S'long as you register before 5/26 that is :D
Thanks for the info Lexie! I'll see about getting the 501C3 number... If not for this year, at least I'll know what to do for next year... And I can't wait to read all about on your blog!!! Take care!
I'm going!!! I just got my ticket the other day and I am so flippen excited. I was also there in '07 and had an absolute blast. I look forward to catching up with the folks I previously worked with to see where they are now and what they're doing. I also love that there's a FedEx booth so you can have your shwag shipped to yourself before you leave! Uh-mazing.
I highly encourage everyone interested in going, to go! You can find tons of weekend places on Craigs List and maybe a couple of people could get together to find something. BEA is huge for the city and lots of people will be offering their places up for this weekend.
For those who are truly brave, there is a couchsurfing website that lists folks who are willing to offer up their couches for a weekend for free to people who are in town for short periods of time. It's for people who are interested in meeting new people and help them out if they're in the city. From what I've read, members are screened to ensure they're not creeps or criminals. :-)
Feel free to drop me an email if you are planning on going (onlinepublicist@gmail.com). I would love to meet up with all of you and show you around the awesomeness that is BEA, and, of course, NYC.

Wish I could. Unfortunately, besides the moola, I've got a project at work that I'll most probably be working overtime on, between the end of March and the end of June. =( Someone mail me swag? Please? =P
