I haven't read the Lord of the Rings (and probably won't! We bought a copy but I didn't even want to start...) but I love the movies.
I thought the Time Traveler's Wife (book) was okay, and actually forgot a lot of the details by the time I watched the movie, so I actually liked the movie better as it was easier to understand the time travel too.
And goddog it I forgot about two big ones I thought were better than the books.
Pride and Prejudice
Gone with the Wind
The books were way too long and drawn out. Pride and Prejudice with Lawrence Oliver and Greer Garson is one of my favorite movies! I also loved Wuthering Heights. Was that a book? I'm confused on that one, LOL!
Three that really stand out in my mind that I read first and was so glad I did - Jurassic Park, Silence of the Lambs, and Jaws. At Powered by Books today you will find 4 February movie releases based on books. I've read two of them.
I was actually just thinking about this today and I can only think of two movies that I liked better then the books, and those were Chocolate, in which I loved the movie but did not like the book and Confessions of a Shopaholic, where I enjoyed the book but I liked the movie even better.
