Bottom of the slush pile, or bottom of the eBook pile?

I chose to self publish because I had little faith that I would ever make it past an publisher's slush pile in this day and age. Now I'm feeling a little bit discouraged because my book is now at the bottom of a mountain of eBooks! I've sold about 60 copies through amazon and barnes and noble in three weeks. I don't know whether that's typical or low. I kind of think I've exhausted my friends (if they're going to buy it, they already have) and I hate begging for FB likes or asking everyone (again) to share the link.

Where do I go from here to market? I've contacted several YA book review bloggers and some have said they'll take it on, so that's encouraging. I have some pleasant reviews and comments on the sites. I set up a separate FB page (that no one's reading...) and a Goodreads page.

Is it just a game of word of mouth and waiting now? Should I offer it for free on sites such as Smashwords? (It's listed for $2.99).

Thanks for your help for a newbie!

You're my favorite! (Wait. Does that only work on children?)

I couldn't agree more. My first kids book is very slow to start (making 60 ebooks in 3 weeks sound miraculous) and it's easy to get discouraged - but as you've pointed out - the more books you have on offer the better the outcomes :)

i didnt read any mention of twitter in the above posts

if you want bang for buck, twitter is pretty good

if you can work up a number of followers, people who perhaps have "book lover" in their taglines.. then just spend an hour a day tweeting, if that

you'll make some good connections, get retweeted, and make more connections

Twitter works ok, but you have to tweet a lot. You need snappy, punchy tweets as a lot of them go ignored. It works well for a KDP free promotion, and @TweetYourBooks will tweet for you for a week. I think, as an unknown, people need to try you out risk free.

Melyssa, if you add me on Facebook 'Marie Harbon', I'll add you to a few author networks.

I haven't started the Twitter thing yet. I know I need to. I'm talking myself into it. Slowly. Maybe once I start, I'll love it...I didn't think I'd like FB, but I do.

Yeah I'm still new to the twitter myself, but I'm sucking it up. I use it for another place to brodcast I have new blog and website updates.
