Can a book be over rated?

I'm just wondering if it possible for a book to be so over rated. That when you read it, its not as good as all the hipe. Or is it just a matter of choice on whether you liked it or not.

Shelly..it's the same with a movie just because it's flashed on the tv every 5 minutes,on every billboard and constantly in your face doesn't mean it's great..like "Original Sin" with Antonion Banderas/Angeline Jolie..wasn't publized and I don't know anyone who has seen it..but I thought it was an excellent romantic flick..same goes for books, food, men...get the drift?

I've seen the Original Sin, I know what your talking about. Yes, your right some movies hipe isn't as good as others. I have read many books over so many years and realized that in some cases some books seem to get more hipe then others. I myself don't read the books because of the hipe, I read the book because I like the idea of the story line or the cover.

But, I've always loved a good book. Everyone idea of a good book is different and I know that.
