Hey folks, Prongs here from Good Books Inc. At our blog we are dedicated to reviewing classic literature, as well as novels we feel might one day be classics. While I love many of the blogs that I read, we are hard pressed to find blogs that are not YA or fantasy focused. I was just wondering if there are any other bloggers out there that review classic literatrue!? If so please drop us your link as we would love to follow you!

Ooh, I'm glad I found this discussion - classic reviewers are a rare breed. My blog is basically focused around getting through the list 100 Books to Read Before You Die. There's both classic and contemporary literature.

My blog is The Friande (I like cakes, ok).
Like your 100 books to read before you die. Some excellent choices. (I've taught literature for most of my life and am now retired, so have read most of them--although some are vague memories. You might find a few more worth reading on my new blog

I have had some interesting experiences the few times I wrote about classic literature. There are different expectations about the reading level of writing which you can use when writing about the classics. You may find that your audience does not want the style aimed at an average reading adult. Literary criticism of the classics is a collegiate activity. You may experience some elitism.

I commend you for doing this. More people should read the classics. Be prepared in case you run into people who may want you to write like the New Yorker or other literary magazines.

If you watch television, Oprah Winfrey is a good example of how people react when popular media writes about quality literature. Some readers and academics believe only quality writers should write about literature. Blogs are a form of popular media.

I have had no trouble when I am writing about genre fiction or popular nonfiction. This is what I write about mostly.

Consider writing for a college educated audience. More complex language and references to authorities on literature may be expected.
Absolutely! I'm a YA/paranormal-free book blogger. = ) My blog is very new and I haven't reviewed many books yet, but I plan on doing a lot of classics in the coming months!

I've just started my blog: the first book I wrote a review of was Madame Bovary, the next will be the Booker Winner Troubles by J.G Farrell.

I have this problem too - I'm not too keen on fantasy or YA! I'll follow all the blogs on here!

Thanks, Frederico. Sorry to have taken so long to reply. I've not been round this way in a bit. :-)
Oh wow so many responses! I posted this a year ago and just re-found it! Thanks to everyone who answered we will be happy to follow you all.
I'm pretty eclectic but I definitely have some classics in my mix. Most recently I posted reviews of Treasure Island, Phantom of the Opera, and Gone With the Wind. I just got a Kindle too and with the amount of classic literature available for free, I know I'll be reading even more of it in the future!
