Since this is a community on blogging about books I was wondering what everyone is currently reading and blogging about. I love to find new authors and books that others are reading and loving, so I'll start with what I'm currently reading.
I'm currently reading Promise of the Rose by Brenda Joyce.
I've only just finished The Kindly Ones by Jonathan Littell, an American author who grew up and was educated in France. The novel was originally published in French and translated into English. Anyway, for those who don't know it, it's the fictional memoir of one Dr. Maximilian Aue, who served in the Sicherheitsdeinst, the security service of the SS. It's a clever and reasonably well-written book that explores the process by which ordinary people can tolerate monstrous things without themselves being monstrous.
It's had rave reviews, one French publication going so far as to describe it with considerable exaggeration as a new War and Peace! My own feelings are far more mixed. If I have the time I'll write by own appreciation in far more sober terms!
I've moved another novel dealing with a related theme, Alone in Berlin, a new translation of Hans Fallada's Jeder stirbt für sich allein. The American title is Every Man Dies Alone. It's a thriller, centering on a married couple, living in Berlin, who begin their own personal campaign of resistance against the Nazis after learning of the death of their only son in the war.

I'm really enjoying "The Luck Factor" it's a fabulous read about percieving things the right way. At my age I can tell you that the author Richard Wiseman has it right. I like the way he writes and its a very pleasurable read. I found it on the web page of another author. She has some very interesting choices on her favorite books page.....I read her book a while ago and enjoyed it. check out www.cdnolan.com to see the favorite book page.
