I just wonder that we are spending quite a bit of time promoting books to boards most often visited by authors. I don't think authors buy many books.

I am curious, if it will make more sense to find boards where more readers hang out.  Wish you all the very best.

That's not necessarily true. Authors are supposed to read as well, nobody better to know the value of a good book that those who write books. I try to read a book or two a month in between blogging and writing. I also know several authors who love to read, so yes, promotion should be geared to readers, but authors are readers too.

Agree that authors will read for information to write in addition to leisure reading. What I was thinking that it is like sellers selling to sellers. Thanks.

Wow, I think authors buy lots of books.  At least I do.  I have eclectic taste and am always looking for a new author or new subject to explore.  I write mysteries so I tend to read more mysteries than anything else, but a well-written book is always going to be welcome in my library.  Since I got my Kindle I spend more money on books than ever.  It's a little hard on the wallet but . . .

i find book groups good for advice and comments on blogs etc... but i dont think you're going to get too many people buying books

I was thinking exactly the same when I started this thread that you may learn some marketing tips but may not sell many books on these boards. Because everyone is focusing on selling more than buying. Thanks.

I have to with Naty,

I am an author and on goodread where there are authors and we buy each other books and post reviews. i would love to do that some of the author here as well.

Yes, I think authors love to read and so should make good book buyers.

I'm an author and I buy tons of books.

Authors are usually avid readers.

How many of these books you bought are from authors on these boards? I agree authors do read, perhaps more than others.

I wouldn't say it works either way to be honest.  I think what might work better is that an author appreciates the hard work thats gone into a title a little more and I think that due to this they may well make sure that they mention it to others if they've loved it.

So in that sense, yes, an author is a good target for titles.

I know I do! I LOVE books! Please visit my page on facebook https://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/The-Bridge-of-Deaths/130675087014521 leave a comment so I can reciprocate LIKE, HAVE A GREAT END OF JANUARY!!!!

I agree with you, actually, but not because authors don't like to read -- far from it! And if you can get the right authors reading your books, ones with a fan base they can recommend your book to, it can definitely help. But you do need to look outside writer communities to make a bigger impact. There are a lot of readers on this site, actually. Many of the bloggers here review books, they don't write them. I also use goodreads and librarything to help find readers, as opposed to just writers.
