My friend, author Stephen Poleskie, recently had a book trailer made for his book VIGILIA'S TEMPEST. While it had over 700 hits on YouTube in the first months it was up, and has now passed 4300 hits, he is not quite sure how many sales this actually accounted for. Here is the link to his book trailer if you would like to check it out:

Let me know what your opinion is of the effectiveness of book trailers, positive or negative. Please feel free to post your book trailer here if you have one, or someone elses if you wish to comment on it.

Hi Pearson,
I rather like book trailers if they're simple and convey sense of a book as opposed to a movie trailer. If the music is too loud and fails to give rise to relevant emotions re genre, I'll give it a miss. I suspect loads of people give mine a miss because they're amateur and simple in conveying turning pages with no zoom in/out and flashy banners zipping here and there.

Hi Francine,
I enjoyed your trailer and checked out your other ones too. Who says that they are "amateur?" They are quite good, and very effective. Who did the illustrations? A lot of work there. Makes me want to read the book.
Best wishes,
Pearson
Permalink Reply by Joseph Valentinetti on May 1, 2012 at 12:43pm I think you have the right idea about book trailers. They are not movie trailers though the comparison is almost unavoidable. Your trailer is very good at conveying the idea of the novel. If I were to say a negative it would be the typeface. Some of the capital letters didn't look anything like letter to me. Especially the E and C. I was able to figure them out contextually but while I was doing that I was `away' from the feel of the trailer itself. Maybe if I read more Gothic text I be used to it, maybe your audience is. You know best.

Permalink Reply by Cliff Ball on April 19, 2012 at 10:39am Here's a new book trailer I made(still pretty much an early version), for my latest novel, Times of Trouble. I have no idea if book trailers sell books
Here's mine that I did myself. It was really fun. I've done videos before but this one was the longest and most creative. Let me know what you think.
Hi Mia,
A very fine job. I enjoyed it very much. The book looks interesting, good luck with it. What software did you use? How many videos have you done previously?
Best wishes,
Pearson

Permalink Reply by Sherry Gloag on April 25, 2012 at 11:08am I had over 1k hits for my debut novel The Brat and quite good sales which then fell off to a steady flow -

My next book trailer for Duty Calls had no impact on llaes at all.

My first novella, The Wrong Target for Valentine 2011 sold well.

While From Now Until Forever, the first in a four books series is plodding along the bottom line somewhere.

and I still haven't done one for my current Valentine and 2nd book in the series His Chosen Bride. Perhaps that's why I'm led to believe it's not sold a single book?
Hi Sherry,
You sure have been busy. The trailers look good. Did you make them yourself or have them done professionally? I seem to be finding that few people believe that book trailers do much for sales. Or perhaps I just haven't heard from people who found differently. Even my big-time author friends report that their book sales are way down.
Best wishes,

Permalink Reply by Joseph Valentinetti on May 1, 2012 at 12:54pm Times are tough everywhere. When they are the toughest is when you try the hardest. I don't believe you can judge any single piece of the sales puzzle independent of the whole. So if sales are off look for something to do, not something to blame. Book trailers can cast your book in a new light.
