I received a copy of a book that I could barely make myself read to chapter 3. I posted an honest review of the book on my blog, and I was wondering if you ever feel guilty about writing a bad review for a book that was free? I got it from a company that was willing to help me with some reviews for my newer than most book blogs. I thought cool! I am going to finally get a foot in the door! But I hated the book, posted my review and now worry if I just blew it with a company willing to help.
My personal opinion is that a bad review is still a review that gives people an honest opinion. I am not telling people not to buy the book. I just basically give a heads up.http://myoverstuffedbookshelf.blogspot.com/

I've written a few bad reviews. I do feel guilty, but I think it helps the authors, too. My bad reviews made me sad, but they also helped me become a better writer.
I think it's important for any author to be willing to grow, and a writer can't do this without listening to a variety of feedback. I think those who criticized my work have helped me far more than those who've offered praise. Feel free to critique my work anytime. :)
ok, maybe my stance is changing. maybe i should say i don't like the book but why...i have had the feeling of wanting to throw one book across a room that i paid good money for... i think i was more angry at myself not trying to reading parts of the book first. if i had written a review of that book, i would have told the author it was because the undeleted expletives were sprinkled in way too liberally and without point or reason for my taste.
Really I don't post reviews unless I have finished the book, but after finding your review, you did nothing wrong. Any publisher should know that not all readers will like a book and that negative reviews will at times be written about the books they publish. It wasn't for you and you were honest about it. Never feel guilty for posting your honest opinion!
