Is it rude to ask people to read my book on-line?

My book is soon to be published, first as an ebook (next week).  I don't know how to give away free copies of ebooks (I need to ask my publisher).  My book will be on-line until it's published and I'm looking for reviewers that might be interested (I'm sure the subject will turn some off).

I know it's not a free ARC, but it can at least give you a chance to peek at it and see if you're interested. Let me know what you think:

I've never read a book on-line per se.  Most of the time when I review e-books I am sent a PDF to read, so you could do that.

So do authors just send you a PDF file?  Is there a way to read a PDF file on your kindle?
Yes, they just send the file.  I don't have a kindle, so I don't know, but I have heard that you can read PDF files on almost any e-reader.  Honestly, I read them in google reader or Adobe reader.

have you looked into http://www.smashwords.com/? An author here told me about it & it's pretty neat so far.

As a side note, I know I can load PDFs onto my Nook Color & I believe you can on the Kindle too. PDFs normally don't have as many features as the regular books, but it's not impossible to read a book that way on the eReaders.

I don't think that you will get many takers for online reading. A PDF will work, but if it's going to be an e-book, why not just offer a potential reviewer their choice of the paperback, mobi or epub version? That's what I do. You have to respect the reviewer's preference. Reviewers like options, and free press is hard to come by. I find that really helps me get book reviews.

I agree with the Smashwords suggestion. That is my absolute favorite way to get the books. That way I can download it to my kindle! PDF's can be put onto the kindle BUT they are kind of hard to read. The font size is never right for the page and I have to change lots of settings to be able to read them.

Smashwords - I tried to download a book from there and couldn't figure it out.  I haven't been able to get any book on my kindle other than ones I buy at the Kindle store. Sounds like it messes up the font anyway.   I'll go to smashwords and try to see what I can do.  Has any one ever heard of Bookbuzzr.com?  I'm wondering if they can do the same sort of thing.

Looks very interesting. The subject doesn't turn me off, but I am a PNR/UF reviewer. The best way to get your book out there is to find sites that review your genre and contact them, as many as you can. You will have to offer a free ARC to the reviewer if you want them to read it.

Book blog tours are popular. You set up about 10 blogs that are willing to host you for an interview and/or review and usually you give away a free copy to a random commenter. Again, you just need to target blogs that cater to your genre.

I hate reading online! Like everyone else says....pdf copies can be sent and transferred to ereaders easily.

As suggested earlier, I use Smashwords to publish.  You just have to have the file in a Word document, and it helps if you have the cover ready.  Smashwords transfers your document to be available on all e readers.  I have read books online many of times, but I do have a tendency to put them down because I can't carry them with me.  I also have many PDF files on my kindle, and the quality varies since their are limited viewing options with PDF.  Give Smashwords another try, they will increase the traffic on your site and pimp out your book.  You can check out my samples at http://www.smashwords.com/profile/view/DLStone
I understand that there are some authors who don't have enough to send actual ARCs, which is why I review e-books as well. But there was this one author who wanted me to review an e-book online and I had to sign up in order to view it. I did sign up and gave them a fair review, but to me personally, I don't like websites where I have to sign up in order to view it. It's such a hassle to keep track of especially when I have so many other accounts as well, dedicated to my blogging. Which is why I usually prefer authors to send me a download-able version.

I don't read my books online, but I have an e-reader. It's becoming more and more common. Two bookstores closed near me and I'm pretty certain it's because of the popularity of e-books.

:) I actually prefer e-books sometimes.
