Me and the boyfriend were talking last night and the subject of my blog got brought up. He knows that a lot of the books that I read right now are ebooks since we are currently living with his mother and all of my physical books are in storage. So the question got brought up whether or not I would be interested in having an ebook reader. Of course I've already asked myself this question about a hundred times. Finally knowing that he was willing to buy me one (yay!) I done a little bit of searching last night and I'm really interested in the Kindle.

The idea sounds really great to me at the moment, but I don't want to get it and use it for a month and never pick it back up again. What do you guys think? Have you had any experience with a kindle, or any ebook reader for that matter? Is it worth it in your opinion to buy one?

I think someone else posted about this just the other day, though, perhaps it was on one of the other blogs that I like to visit.

I would LOVE an ebook reader. I've already told my husband I want an iPad for Christmas, but ... well, we'll see. Money is tight right now. I like that it's color and that it's MORE than simply an ereader. You can do a whole lot more with it than just read books.

I've resisted the whole ebook reader thing for quite some time, simply because I love the feel of books. I like curling up with one, I like being able to change positions with one, I like not having to worry that I'm about to roll over on one! (Somehow I don't think that would be so good for an eReader...) But ... think about how much time you spend where you might be caught without a book: in line at the bank, in line here, in line there, waiting for a kid, waiting for practice to end, waiting (as I did yesterday) for a clerk to be available at the For Eyes store. Or if you travel at all, think about how convenient it would be to have a whole bunch of books in one small "container" or package. Get a bunch of books, to suit a variety of moods or interests, and you're good to go for a long time! That's the big, big attraction to me. And I'd love the rest of what comes with an iPad, too.

Could I ask why you're thinking Kindle, vs., anything else?
I would LOVE, LOVE, LOVE to have an iPad, but there is just no way that we have the money for that right now, or any time in the near future even. Also, while as you mentioned the iPad is so much more than just and ebook reader, I'd like to have something that is JUST an ebook reader. It specializes in it.

I totally agree with you on loving the feel of books. For some reason or another I'm addicted to the smell of books. I love the way they smell. New ones, old ones, it doesn't matter they all have a certain smell to them and I love them all.

I think the reason that I was considering the Kindle is because it's pretty decently affordable, I like the style of it, and the memory capacity is pretty good as well. It's also supposed to have free 3G wireless and you can get on wikipedia from it and I'm totally addicted to wikipedia. I've also heard someone say that you can check your email from it as well although I'm not entirely sure if that is true or not. It doesn't say anything about it on the amazon page for it.
I'd love an eBook, leaning toward the Nook. I carry my current book with me everywhere "just in case" (for example, going shopping and my son falls asleep, my wife can go and I stay in the car).

After giving the Nook a second look I definitely do like it better than the Kindle.
The Kindle is compatible with Amazon only. If you wanted to download more generic titles you would not be able to do this. Think about a Nook or a Sony Ereader. For example, if you wanted to download free ebooks from a library, you probably would not be able to download it with a Kindle. Nook is a much more open platform. Nook is also partnering with Google so they should have a really interesting selection pretty soon with the Google Books project. The competition is going to heat up in ereaders.
Ok, so I checked out the Nook again and I definitely like it better than the Kindle. Thanks so much for pointing out it to me!
I love my Kindle I have had it since December of last year and have no complaints. I am getting an ipad next week hopefully and will download some of the other free e-readers on it. I still read hard copies as well, so love the e readers.
I just reviewed the Book by Augen. It cost me $89.00 at Kmart and so far it is great. I have lusted for an eBook reader but couldn't convince myself to spend the money. At $89 with a color screen and 150 preloaded books (generic out of copywrite stuff), I couldn't resist. I didn't get paid to write the review and I don't sell them, my review is based on my personal, one week experience. My sister who also wants an iPad got one from Kmart too based on the price. Anyway, if you are interested my review is at my tech blog. Money Saving Tech Tips and Philosophic Musings.
My beloved wife got me a Nook this weekend for my birthday :)
Love it!
Happy belated birthday and what a good gift :)
A lot depends on whether you'll use your e-reader just for books, or for other things. I like having a device that can browse the internet.

Budget's also a factor. The iPad is the cream of the crop, but it's also a lot of money.

I read books via the Kindle App on my iPod Touch. I like the fact that I can read in bed with the lights off and hold/turn pages using just one hand. Also read on my phone using Android Kindle app. Love that you just synch on each device and all the books you purchased will be on there (including PC). The actual app for Kindle is free on all devices.

Good luck!

Jason

p.s. Right now I'm running a contest to win a free iPad. Details are on my site: www.covertyouthagency.com
I have been looking at the Sony Reader a lot. I had a friend get the Nook and she hated it. She didn't like the way it turned pages or something. I found it complicated when trying it out in best buy. Right now i use one of my husbands old PDA's with mobipocket reader i downloaded on it, and it does awesome.

I personally don't like the Kindle from all my research. You can like someone said, only use Kindle content on it, UNLESS you buy the more expensive one. Even then you have to e-mail it to your kindle e-mail and it costs 15 cents. Geez!
