Finding time to write with babies in the house.

Hi everyone,

I thought I would start a discussion on how we all find time to write... blog or read with babies running around requiring our attention.

I dont know about you but my 11 month old daughter is a clingy little bug... The only time I find myself writing is during her nap time. 1 nap a day, that is all she takes. (Which by the way... is right now.)

I find myself writing my novel at night... so literally I am up until nearly midnight, that is until I find myself to tired or realized that I have fallen asleep on my laptop.

At most times, my cheeks having pressed far to many keys during my deep slumber that when I awake, I have far to many pages of YZX's, cascading down, far to many pages to count. LOL.

Please feel free to share your thoughts and opinions. :)

Here I am advertising my Paranormal Romance/Fantasy ebook below-

That's the real trick...promotion! ~sigh~

I think writers with kids have a better than average shot (and not just because I am a writer with kids). We have to balance or risk falling flat, we dig into the deepest recesses of our minds (making us more creative) and we never give up! ;)

I tell you, I cannot write at all - and I have an 11 month son.  Between working full time, and having a wife that works full time (so we have to split the chores) and of course spending time with baby Xavier, I just can't find enough hours in a day to write.  What I am looking forward to is the summer.  One of the huge advantages of being a teacher :)

I did that for many a summer.

I also developed some acute insomnia that really aided my writing :)

I love the summer; it's one of the best things about being a teacher. Time to write and to spend with your kids - I don't know that I could maintain my busy schedule if I didn't have the summer to look forward to.
My oldest is graduating from high school in June and I have to tell you to enjoy your little ones.  They grow up so fast, I have five and the age span is 17-9 and it has flown by.  Enjoy them now and write later or give her things to write or color and write together.  It all goes too fast.  I like to write when they are in school and it works pretty well or I tell them to give me a few hours before dinner.  Have fun and enjoy the time you have, especially when they want to spend time with you.  I want to spend time with them now and they are too busy for me most of the time, she will be out and about before you're ready.

I have five girls ages 1 to 13. They keep me quite busy. I usually try to write when the little ones are napping (and the older ones are in school) or at night when everybody is asleep. I find myself up until midnight during the school year and many times until 2am during the summer.

LOL, I had to post this on this thread:

To cheer up exhausted parents with an over-energetic child or collicky baby, Akashic Books will publish Go the F*** To Sleep in October.

I hope this helps you, it worked for me.......When I had to take my grandchildren to the office with me(to do paperwork) before I computerized...I went to Toys R us and purchased those panels you snap together to form a 36-40 inch tall fence in area..and you make it as big as you want..just add panelsI.. put a small basket with toys and a small table n chairs..they could see me and still play ( like freedom with restrictions) it worked great.Grandchildren are school age now..HOWEVER.. both my daughters used this when they did a "take your child to work day" it was a treat for both...now I need a favor...NOW.. my husband is retired and I am having to write at night or when he takes naps..any suggestions? weedbychoice..kjforce

my husband is retired and I am having to write at night or when he takes naps..any suggestions?

LOL.  My husband isn't there yet. Getting close though. Too close. What is it about husbands that they need all that attention? Sheesh.

Have you tried hooking him on some computer games or buying kits to build ships in bottles? I hear those are very time consuming.

Elsie Loves Fiction

computer games would tie up my computer, thus killing the messenger...but I do think the build ships in bottles or did you mean putting him in a ship with a bottle..either one if it works is good for me...just thought I'd have some fun with your reply..thanks...kjforce

I clicked on this link JUST to see what RYCJ has to say (mostly because you usually make me smile or laugh out loud)...

Couldn't agree with you more though! I haven't written in a long time. I haven't been in the right place to put my heart into my novel... it is HARD when you have little ones. Appreciate your time with them, they are only small ONCE!

If you MUST write now... MAKE time. It isn't going to magically appear. Having a helpful husband, a supportive family, and staying up late help too!
