Hey all, just curious about what you guys do when you don't see as many people following your blog? Do you leave it as it is, or do you continue to network your blog as much as you can? I've done a few blog hops and giveaways which seemed to be helping for a while, but all the sudden, it just kind seemed to stop. Is this a bad sign?

No, not a bad sign-- it is just the nature of the beast.  After a year and a half of blogging, I've noticed it just waxes and wanes. Sometimes weeks go by with no new followers;  then a few weeks  with a trickle; then  they pour in for awhile. Mind you, I only network sporadically.  If I joined hops ect regularly, I imagine there would be fewer lulls. But I kinda like natural cycles and trickles.

Thanks for the information. I'll keep that in mind. Hopefully things won't be too far off :)
I write my blog for me, my kids, my grandkids, and the rest of my extended family. I don't care if anyone else follows it. The fact that others do follow, is just the icing on the cake. I think it depends on the reason why you blog.

Not a bad sign. It has its ups and downs. The best way to get followers is to leave comments on other blogs, find new blogs and introduce yourself. I don't know if you use Twitter at all, but it is a good place to follow people, get followers and then tweet your latest blog posts. You'll get followers from there as well.

Good luck!

Totally not a bad thing, especially depending on how long you've been blogging and your post frequency. I've been blogging for about four months and I'm still improving my blog everyday. One thing that definitely helps is finding other people that are just starting out and comment on their stuff. I always always always try to return comments on my blog and check out my followers. Another thing that really helps me are weekly memes. If you have a book blog, what better way to bond with other bloggers than over books!?
I had a ton of new followers then nothing then after a normal week 6 new people. Couldn't tell you why. It's just the way it works. The reality is it's all very random. I was after followers then I really stopped trying and have been more focused on enjoying my blog. Hops and giveaways are really your best bet though I'd say.

I find the same thing. I just keep at it. Make sure you post on other blogs and leave your website when you comment. I also do twitter and facebook. Also trying to get other blogs like yours to add you to their page as a blogger they follow helps too. Goo luck!

A Novel Review

I'm interested to read the responses here...I am about to start a blog and am kind of wondering why because I know there are lots of people out there who, like me, struggle to fit in all the reading around in a day.

do we need one more blog? does the world really need to hear the workings of my mind?? actually are they ready for it?

and felicia, can you suggest some fantastic blogs??

All of the ppl posting here have fantastic blogs IMHO & we do need 1 more blogger because everyone new offers a fresh perspective & thats a new person to talk to and meet and a potential new friend. I love new blogs.

Please leave your link when you begin your blog I would love to read it :)

It seems normal that they go up and down. I notice smaller blogs/newer blogs struggle in that dept more than say a blog with 1k followers or more that's at least a year old. It's ok though, just keep going and if you post they will come ;)  Your blog is nice Felicia.

BOOKS AND BEYOND

I really love your take on the idea of new blogs, Books and Beyond! I've only just started one, called Books Are My Heroine (focused on books featuring interesting heroines) and I, too, was debating what my place in the blogging world could be.

I'll definitely be checking out your blog! Feel free to check mine out here: Books Are My Heroine .

Thanks!

You know what worries me (irrationally, I might add)? When my blog has a certain number of followers one day, but the next day it's lower. Even if it's only reduced in number by one, that makes me go on a spate of social networking, looking up followers and searching for new blogs to comment on.

Does anyone else fret about number fluctuations?

Flights of Fantasy

@ JanetLee ~ YES! We do need one more blogger out there to tell us of their journey through writing and the workings of your mind. You never know, you might have a piece of advice or information no one thought to post.

@ Marian ~ Blogger has issues. One day I'll be short one follower and then the next day I'm up by two. Or that one will come back. Sometimes I get an error when I log in saying I am not currently following any blogs. As soon as I hit the refresh button, they all come back.
