Hey all, just curious about what you guys do when you don't see as many people following your blog? Do you leave it as it is, or do you continue to network your blog as much as you can? I've done a few blog hops and giveaways which seemed to be helping for a while, but all the sudden, it just kind seemed to stop. Is this a bad sign?

Mel - The rational part of my mind said it was probably a computer bug... and the irrational part said, "What if you haven't blogged enough recently and they got bored?"

Not that there's any real harm in blogging more, unless it takes time away from my writing.

I have that irrationality. My first immediate thought was, "Aw hell, who did I piss off now?" but then logic kicks in. XD

Well Mel Chesley aint you the sweetest thing. ( and you type really well for a feline)

I will certainly hit you up to my website very soonie!!

Interesting discussion topic!  I'm glad I found it.  :)

I've been having issues with this whole issue lately because I haven't been able to read, review and blog as much as I had in the beginning.  I just moved and am still settling in.  Plus my daughter just started school and somehow that means more craziness with all the forms, volunteering, driving her here, there and everywhere.  Anyway, I'm not finding as much time as I'd like to devote to my blog.  Meanwhile, I've been somewhat stuck at the same number of followers - which makes sense, but is nevertheless frustrating.

Sometimes I think we get overly hung up on the number of followers we have - like it's some kind of popularity contest - when reality a lot of people just click follow but then never come back to read another review.  I try to remind myself that I'm doing my blog for me - for an outlet to express my love of reading and writing and literature.  It probably shouldn't be about the numbers, but for some reason I do get preoccupied with it.

People following your blog is not an indication of how many are actually reading it and leaving comments. Sure people can click on the follow button, but unless they subscribe by email to your blog they are not getting your updates. So, those who follow your blog may never check back again with your blog. What you want is to engage visitors with your blog content. Ask a question at the bottom of each new blog post or ask for their input, it might entice them to leave comments. I would judge who is visiting your blog by Alexis numbers, comments, stats page at google and wordpress, and installing a Live Traffic Feed, www.feedjit.com, Of course, blogging is about making friends, visit 20-30 blogs a day and leave comments at their blog, they will return the favor and come to your blog. This probably works best of all, engaging content that is needed by your audience,  leaving comments elsewhere, along with giveaways. Good luck.

If people like my blog, they'll follow.  If they don't, they won't.  It doesn't really matter to me if I have a lot of followers because I write my blog to exorcise my thoughts about books so I don't drive my family and friends too crazy.  It turns out a few people like what I have to say enough to want to follow my bibliophile ramblings.
