Have you ever paid someone to promote your book?

There are a lot of book promotion companies popping up, from blog tours to educational tools to elite memberships to certain author websites. I was wondering if anyone has paid to promote your book; even for ads in magazines or websites. Have you found success doing this? I'm looking to promote my book but haven't had as much time so I'm thinking of paying for a service. However, I want to see if any of you have had luck with one first.

I work with authors to help them build their online network using social media. Part of my work also involves coordinating with PR people, and doing a bit of publicity work for clients when needed...so I've got some experience with this.

You can do a lot of this on your own: blog tours, getting bloggers to review your book, etc. If, as you said, you simply don't have the time, it might be useful to get help. First of all, in order for any publicity campaign to be effective, your online network needs to be solid. Check out this article that explains how important that is: http://www.bookpromotion.com/q-should-i-hire-a-publicist/

And always, always check out references of any service provider you're thinking of hiring.

Good luck!

Thanks Holly, I'll check it out!
