Have you ever watched a movie based on a book then read the book? If so, what was the outcome like for you?

I watched The Secret Life of Bees before reading the book. I have to say the book was much better -thankfully. But the only downside was that I could not imagine the characters as freely as I would've had I read the book first. I was stuck with images of Queen Latifa and Alicia Keys in my head.

Honestly, no. If I watch the movie than for some reason I have no interest in the book. But, if I read the book first and they are coming out with a movie, I'm dying to see it. I guess, if I watch a movie first, I can't really use my own imagination for the book since I'll replay it in my head how the characters look like in the movie. For instance, I'm a huge fan of the HBO show True Blood which is based on the Sookie Stackhouse Books, I attempted to start reading the books and I was picturing everything from the TV Show. By the way great question!

thanks. Nice to know I'm not the only one
unfortunately I saw Angels and Demons and was just starting the book. Don't get me wrong. The movie was good. The book is coming along...but because I saw the movie now I'm just ignoring the book and leaving there to collect dust.

I'm glad I read Harry Potter before the movies. I'm DEFINITELY glad I read The Other Boleyn Girl before the movie. That one was awful.
i hated The Other Boleyn Girl as a movie! It was HORRIBLE!! I'd read the book, and went to see the movie, and walked out of the movie I could even stand it! What were they thinking?! They didn't even get it right!
I'm so with you on that one!
loool. Hven't reached that stage yet. But I almost did that with Wuthring Hights. It's one of my favorite books and when they turned it into a TV movie, I just went eeeeek!
see. that's what I'm talking about. usually, when you read then watch, you endup hating the movie - and that's fine. But when a movie ruins a book for you, that's just bad.
yeah I know it sucks. Although I'm still reading Angels and Demons..it is quite different from the movie. I just have to stop picturing Tom Hanks :P
I like the books always before its been turned into a movie. A movie can leave a certain scene out or not even mention the character in the movie. I like seeing how Hollywood likes it ...but the book is always better in my imagination. Thats a great question. I have read all the Harry Potter, Twilight books. I have also read Jodi Piccoult, James Patterson, Nickolas Sparks..

I think you asked me a question somewhere else on this site... Anyway, the answer is www.selfpublishingreview.com .
thanks. :D
I watched Little Women (many versions) before I ever read the book. I never wanted to read the book because I always felt that Laurie and Jo should be together, not Laurie and Amy! But when I read the book, it all made sense!! I still love the movie, but having read the book now I see it is all how it should be.
Laurie and Jo forever <3 hee :)
