When I tell people that I love reading & reviewing Historical Romance novels, so often they roll their eyes and ask "really?" As if they can’t really fathom it.
It amazes me how often these books are misunderstood and underestimated.
I love the heck out of Historical Romances and I proudly tell people so :-)

If you are a fan of Historical Romance's, I say be proud!

What is your favourite type of Historical Romance?
I just love the books set in Historical London & nearby area, amongst all the hustle and bustle of rich society ;-)
I love the opulence, all the dresses, pomp and finery.

I love most historicals. They can be set anywhere, but I want them set before 1900. I'm not into over detailed war stories either. I love adventure, which seems a bit hard to find nowadays, but I love it.
I'm a big fan of Historical romance. Since I started reading my mother's books, I couldn't and never stopped reading this genre.
Now, I write them. I love mostly the Medieval romances. The warrior men saving their damsels in distress. Be still my heart!

Hi Bobbie,

Don't worry about what others think. Who cares? And if you think that's bad, you should hear what people who read Erotica go through, LOL! I've heard so many humorous stories. Most Erotica readers are so embarrassed they just say, "I read romance." Then the romance readers are embarrassed about reading romance. But this ticks off true romance writers because they fume at the ears when Erotica is put in the same category as romance. They are the first to say, "Her books aren't romance, Mine are!" LOL. It happens to the writers too. A lot of them are embarrassed to say they write romance and erotica. I couldn't write anything and be embarrassed by it. Doesn't make sense. Why write it if you aren't comfortable, proud and enjoy it?

I don't think there's anything wrong with romance if that's your thing. I'm a mystery and suspense chick myself. I always have been. I can't read a straight romance. I gotta have some sleuthing or some kind of mystery to keep me interested. My main problem with a lot of romance is that the female is going through problems at first, until she meets the hero. Then all her problems and issues magically float away. Some of them are so unrealistic. I know books are supposed to be an escape, but if a heroine is fighting breast cancer, being framed for a murder or being blackmailed, I don't think some hero is gonna take her mind from that five minutes after she meets him, LOL! Also I can't stand weak women and that's what turns me off from a lot of romances. The woman is intelligent and doing her own thing then the minute she meets the hero, she turns into a twit and can't live without him. I'm like, "Yuck!" LOL! That's why romance has the reputation of being cheesy, because of some cheesy books.

Romantic suspense is enjoyable, but straight romance with no other elements is not my thing. But it's all about what the reader likes, not others. I've read some historical romance. They are much better than the typical romance, I agree. I love things that take place back in history.

The most embarrassed romance readers seem to be the loyal Harlequin readers. They seem addicted to H, but a lot are embarrassed by that. People should just read what they want.

If someone asked me I'd probably go, "It's none of your business what I read." Because, it really isn't anyone else's business so no need to be embarrassed.
