How did you start writing and why did you write?

When I decided to write a novel, I had no idea how. I found an audio course, Fiction Writing by Ayn Rand. I listened to it once, gaining very little. Then, I wrote several stories that were first acts. I wrote for 2 years, but with many problems, until I finally went back to the cassettes and listened to them again.

This time I gained a little bit more, and I wrote for another two years, but my stories were boring, dull, awkward, inconclusive. I went back to the course, with many questions. During the 4^th time my mind had developed—and I grasped the answers.

I wrote because I wanted to project young individuals, idealists, in a story with a plot that moved at a fast pace. I picked a daring subject: “Is it moral for a woman to love two men?” Then I showed an unconventional answer that most people refuse to consider, but I love.

I have earned $2.99 so far (14th July), and sold my first Kindle book, yippee!! After writing for 5 years, I have recently published my debut novel, Pearl Lover.

Hi Kea,

I always find that question interesting too. I think for me, writing is something that I have always done. Sometimes when I'm sad or happy or just because I can. Instead of other Author's, I haven't chosen to study writing at College or University level because it's something you have to go through on your own. No one can tell you what your "voice" is or what genre you will excel at so why pay thousands of pounds to have someone attempt it?

Writing should make you happy so that's why I write.

Yes, you have to do it on your own, very true.  I learned the most when I wrote like hell.  I did the course to answer the questions I had in my head and to get the general principles.  Have you published? Kea

I am currently trying to publish my first manuscript but I'm going through the Agent route first because it would be amazing to have someone care about my book as I do but if that doesn't work out, I'll self-publish it. How did you find the process of self-publishing?

Publishing: easy.  Marketing: harder. But I am working out the process.  In a week, it will also

Hello Kea. Great question if you don't mind, I would like to add my story to the pot so to speak.

I started writing when I was 16 (I'm 22 now) and my Nana was diagnosed with lung cancer. At first, I just started writing in journals, but them decided that my life was kinda dull so I just decided to make things up as I went along. I had this notebook that I carried around with me everywhere I went (things haven't changed) that I wrote all my stories in. I still have some of those old stories to this day and to be quite honest...they suck. But my life long dream of being an author has finally come true.

And I couldn't be happier :)

Congratulations. It is interesting to hear about how you started, and good to talk about your book in some way.  Sometimes I find a book that I like, or I read a blurb that gives me ideas through a post like this.  And in the long-term, we get to see how other authors develop.  It's a great forum.  Kea

It wasn't until I was at work and my co-worker started a book club. They started to talk about these book like it was real and it caught my hears so I asked if I could join as well. I started to read and was hit with the style of writing and thought to myself that I could write like this. I publish my first book in 2000 called 'Sinful Traits' then this year I published another book called 'Secret Affair'. Now with the overwhelming respond to my second book, now I'm writing my third book 'Holy Suspicion'.

Hi Kea,

Yay on your first kindle sale! That is awesome! I started writing as soon as I could put pen to paper. I was always telling stories as a kid, especially to all my stuffed animals. I put it off for a long time though, and it wasn't until 2001 that my muse just couldn't take it any longer. The story would play out in my dreams, I would find myself even daydreaming about the plot. I had no choice but to start actually writing the story until it's completion, and finally published Death Upon Me. It's a dramatic romance with true events, and my muse was happy it was finally finished lol. 

My muse, I like to call her Mouthy Mary, stirs every now and again, and we have a lot of unfinished novels, but I like writing just to soothe her and my soul. I write simply for the joy of it :).

Thank you for the response. I enjoyed reading your selfish reasons for writing. I read the blurb for Death Upon Me. We both wrote about a love triangle. I took the unconventional approach of polyamory and showed how it is the rational way. But I started from your position and asked what if.

How are you coming along with your promotion? Any prospects…? It does take a while, at least a few months to get everything going. Although, I have seen instant success stories that have dwindled away in sales.  Kea
