I've been blogging for just about 8 months, and I'm interested to get an idea how long other people have been blogging for.
From people I've met, it seems that most bloggers have been going for less than 18 months, and then there's the heavyweights who have been going for years and years. So is 18 months the hump in a blogger's life?
What do you guy's reckon, how long have you been blogging for?

My daughter and I have been blogging for 11 months. In that time we have aquired almost 650 followers and have had a blast reading and sharing what we love.
From what I have seen, it seems like hobby bloggers lose steam between 12-18 months if they aren't getting regular traffic and feedback. I feel like by then you have figured out whether you love what your doing or not. For me, I am still going strong, I love talking to other bloggers and interacting through literature.

I think you're probably right about the traffic and feedback, I imagine it's easy to get disheartened if you are blogging as a hobby and to share with others. Happily, I'm still going strong :)

Matthew,
Thanks for the compliment! I love the layout and features on your site as well. I think moreso then followers, the dialogue that happens on the blog makes it fun. I love getting comments and seeing that my reviews are getting out to others.
Glad you are still going strong. When you love what you do, you can't go wrong. I am hoping to transition my site to a bigger and more diverse platform this year. Since you are familiar with my site now, I hope you will come check it out when its upgraded and give some feedback :)
Thanks
Kelli

Permalink Reply by Matthew on January 27, 2012 at 3:29pm Wow, three years! Congratulations, that's really great :) Your site looks fantastic, you can really tell that you've been going a while and established yourself.
I know, I get that feeling too - but when you talk to people in the real world you realise how few people actually blog, it just feels like it online sometimes!

I've been blogging for about 7 months now.
Now that you mention it, I've noticed that trend as well. I have blogging 'friends' that started around the same time as me or they've been writing for 2 or more years. I hope I can make it over that hump.

Permalink Reply by Matthew on January 27, 2012 at 3:35pm A-ha, so pretty much the same as me :) I've been waiting to hit the hump, but as yet it's nowhere in sight - hopefully that's how it will stay. I always imagined I'd lose motivation after a while, but there's always new people to connect with, and new things I want to discuss. When I look at blogs that have been running for years it really inspires me to keep going!

My book blog has been going just over 2 years and my other blog for almost 4 years. I haven't encountered a hump yet and will keep blogging as long as it is fun and personally rewarding. I imagine lots of blogs fizzle out because it isn't fun for the blogger anymore or because they have other commitments or shiny new hobbies/interests to focus on. I know that is the case with some of my bloggy friends who have stopped blogging or cut way back on blogging.
:o)
Permalink Reply by Matthew on January 27, 2012 at 3:37pm Wow, that's a lot of blogging - well done! I think you're probably right, blogging is a big commitment, and if it stops being fun, or something more exciting comes along it's easy to let a blog die. It's kind of sad, but I suppose if people don't have a particular goal in mind then it's easy to slip out of the routine of writing.

I guess it varies and depends on the people you speak to. I started blogging about the fall of 2009. I was blogging about my life as a 30-something year old woman who was going to school full time and living on campus at a state university. The blogs started out as Facebook Notes for my friends then I transferred them all all to Blogger in hopes to write a book one day on my experience. That blog can be found at Life as a 30-something college student I made my last post in December of 2011 when I graduated and I am now starting on the book.
I started the The Mind's Eye in May 2011 when a 2nd poem of mine was published. This blog is where I post my writings(poems and short stories) that I create.
Just this month I started My Reading Rainbow to blog about the books I read.
I am now following you. Keep up the good work.

Permalink Reply by Matthew on January 27, 2012 at 3:41pm Hey Theresa - the blog looks great, I really like the theme. I think it's really great to have a specific purpose in mind when blogging, and to be able to finish your blog, and move on to writing the book must be incredibly satisfying - I wish you the best of luck!
Sounds like the new projects will be keeping well immersed in the blogosphere anyway, so happy blogging!
