I've got a ton of GFC and email followers, but it seems like none of them are really interested in what I post. I've got a bunch of silent readers. So, is there anyway that I can promote commenting?

Be honest and personable, but not overly excited. Ask your readers questions at the end of each blog post. Think of what your readers would like to read in your blog posts each time you write a blog post. Aim at enticing comments, but don't say that you're looking for comments.

Try more discussion posts. I do them occasionally and they always get comments. Comment on other blogs. People tend to come back by your blog and comment on one of your posts.

I'm sure you already know it but followers aren't necessarily readers so follower count isn't always a good way to gauge interest in your blog.

Those are some good suggestions, RYCJ!  Thanks for the tips.

I just posted this as a question on facebook. What's the best way to get comments on your blog?

Check it out and share it with your networks and let's see what kind of response it gets.

I left it open to users adding their own answers but seeded it with 7 suggestions.

You've all probably thought of most of this already, but I thought I'd share (those of you who follow my Facebook page probably already saw this)

58 ways to get noticed as a new blogger

Thanks Darryl!  That's a great article.

you're welcome. wish I'd written it myself! ;)

Your stuff is good too!  I'm following your blog.  Your banner sharing idea is on my list of things to do.

Make sure to turn off Capcha if you haven't already.  Sometimes it discourages commenters, and if your blog has a decent spam filter anyway, then it isn't necessary.

Let's see... sometimes reviewing a more popular book and asking a question or two at the end of a post can draw discussion.  So can interacting on other people's blogs, or joining blog hops or reading challenges.  Responding to comments that people make on your blog is also a plus; it's good to show people that  you care about what they have to say.

To be honest, the thing that worked the most for me was time.  When I started my blog, most posts didn't get any comment, but over the course of a year and a half of regular posting, I managed to build up an interactive following.

Oh, and btw... I love the new layout/design of your blog.  It looks much better than the ones you started out with!  :D
