Any ideas on other ways to get followers besides promoting here and on Facebook? I'm starting to get frustrated because I really would like have my first giveaway but I'm just stuck at 122 followers (GFC). I would greatly appreciate any input. Thanks in advance.

Permalink Reply by Marian Perera on September 24, 2011 at 8:36am I like to get free things to review, and I figure that's more likely to happen with a larger number of followers. Publishers (or anyone else who wants publicity) might be more likely to accomodate a blog with, say, 700 followers rather than one with 30. Just my take on it, though.
I care about how many followers I have because I want to review books for authors and publishers. Most do look at the number of followers you have on your blog in addition to how long you have been blogging and other factors. They're much more likely to consider you as a reviewer if you have several hundred followers versus 30-50 followers.
I also care about how many followers I have because I consider it a reflection of how well I'm doing my job. If my blog is atrocious, people aren't going to follow it no matter what incentives (i.e., giveaways) are offered. As far as offering giveaways, I don't consider it a bribe at all. I think giveaways are mutually beneficial to the blog follower and the blogger. I personally look at a giveaway as a way to thank my followers - especially those who take the time to post comments - and offer them a reward for following. I get the books for free to review and I'm not going to keep them, so why not offer them up to my loyal followers? It's a win-win situation because offering a giveaway also increases my visibility and followers in the process.

Possibly the most influential relationship our children observe is the one between their parents. This is where they are most likely to learn how respect is expressed in daily living. No mater what we tell our children about how to behave, the way we act towards each other is the message they will actually receive.
It's been a day full of bickering between the 6 &7 year old kids, Andrew and Emily. Mom finally loses her patience and yells, "Stop fighting, I can't stand it anymore!"
Both kids look up at her in surprise and then Andrew replies, "But you and Daddy argue all the time. This isn't any different."
Mom is speechless. She's never thought of it this way before, but she knows Andrew is right.
Our children notice the way we speak to each other: our tone of voice, our attitudes, our unexpressed emotions. It's not simply a matter of whether we fight or argue. It's the way we resolve disagreements, how we communicate each other in clearing up minor misunderstandings, and how well we respond to each other's needs.
Even the smallest gestures of attractiveness and concern that passes between Mom and Dad are noticed by our children, becoming a mental model for how to treat loved ones. When they hear the expressions of polite interaction - "please", "thank you", and "you're welcome", - used in a habitual and natural way, and when thoughtful question such as "Can I get you something?" and "Can I help you with that?" are in the background of their everyday lives, they see the way people can help each other through life in both big moments and small.

Twitter is also the best way of being discovered. :)
I read something in this thread, I dont think that giving away free books would be a bribe, its just the same as publishers giving away arc for reviewers to get more attention with their books, there is no bribing about giving away free books or other stuff its just sharing and its also good for your blog. I have been blogging not long ago but I do know that giveaway is really good for your blog, run a giveaway for example your doing a book reviews, so host a free books giveaway, lets say 1 or two books would be okay, if you want to do it international that would also be great, beforeyou do check out the postage if you are planning international, there is also one good thing to do, pick books at the Book Depository, since it is free shipping world wide,, first you should have your budget, if you are okay with 20 dollars pick a books that you want to give away then and make sure that you have a twitter account, that is also a good way to get a follower, second make a form, make sure you add additional entries like 1 points or 2 points, for those who is willing to re post your giveaway on twitter or facebook, In my opinion its much better if you do not oblige readers to follow you back on you GIVEAWAY, let the do what they want to do, if they follow you back then be appreciative if not then that would be fine atleast the news of you having a giving away is on the move, from twitter to facebook, people will know this and they will check it out.
:) I do not say I am an expert with this but I am only saying this thru my experience, but if you have any more questions i am happy to help.

I have struck a deal with the local paper, to be an associated blogger. They get to say they cover literature (even though they can't pay a columnist) and in return they advertise my blog.
