Any ideas on other ways to get followers besides promoting here and on Facebook? I'm starting to get frustrated because I really would like have my first giveaway but I'm just stuck at 122 followers (GFC). I would greatly appreciate any input. Thanks in advance.

The theme is Everybody's Talking About .... Wicked Good People and it's to promote the novel Wicked Good. Check it out on the WOW-Women on Writing group here at ning or contact Robyn at robyn@wow-womenonwriting.com

Permalink Reply by Kimberly Mullican on September 27, 2011 at 11:04am I have no clue how this whole Twitter thing works. I'm ashamed to admit it, but it's true. I do have an account, but I'm not using it effectively. Any tips on where I can go to find an easy-to-follow guide for the newbie Twitter user?

Permalink Reply by Kira on September 27, 2011 at 4:08pm This is a bit away from the giveaway idea (I say go for it. we just had our first couple of giveaways over at Pretty in Fiction, and while we're still under 100 followers -- we're only a couple of months old -- we did get a nice addition from them. You could also stipulate as one of the parts to the entry form that they need to follow via GFC), but what about just a blog hop, or two?
I'm not talking about going crazy with weekly memes, just a few well chosen ones that help get you out there and noticed by other bloggers.
For example, at Pretty in Fiction we participate in, technically, four memes. Two of these memes, which we've been doing practically every Friday since we started, are what has brought us probably the majority of our followers. We recently tacked a third meme onto our Friday list, all of which get posted as part of the same post, and then instructions are followed via the hosts' pages (always linked). The fourth meme, we started last week, and actually is posted tomorrow (though the host has hers up today). There are lots of memes out there, look around, see what works for you, participate and hop around to others' blogs. mention you're a new follower in response to their post and most of them will happily hop back and follow you, too.
*EDIT:* Also, if you're hosting a giveaway while you're doing the memes, mention it in the post, and that's promotion, too. *END EDIT*
Also, for promoting purposes, twitter, if you have it. twitter you can #hashtag everything for better searching purposes, and @mention authors, ect. that have twitter and hope for a RT (works nicely w/ reviews, too.)
EX: This giveaway ended last night, but this is what one of the tweets looked like:
