If Any Book Character Could be Your Personal Sidekick...

Who would you choose? I'm talking about if you run into some shady guys in an alley, have to talk your way out of something, or just a character you would like to hang out with -- which fictional character would you want as your sidekick?

At first I was going to say Jack Reacher from Lee Child's books. But I'd probably go with Cliff Janeway from John Dunning's bibliomysteries. He's a tough ex-cop and book collector.
Oooh... Nice choice! Sounds like just the right character who can intimidate others and yet stimulate your mind. :)
Avery Cates (The Electric Church by Jeff Somers)
or

Dante Valentine (Working for the Devil by Lili Saintcrow)

both kick serious arse.

But! if I was in a situation where someone has to talk me out of something it would be Agent Pendergast (Preston & Child novels) because he's smooth and suave and intelligent :D
Very good sidekick choices! I especially like the idea of having Agent Pendergrast as a sidekick. ;)
If I were alone in a dark alley I would definetely want Edward (from the Twilight series) to be there and save me! I mean who wouldn't want there own personal vampire ass-kicker? :) I've always wanted to hang out with a lot of the characters in my books and just have conversations with them my top five, in no particular order, Dorian Gray (The Picture of Dorian Gray), Atticus Finch (To Kill a Mocking Bird), Pi Patel (The Life of Pi), The ancient Mariner (The Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner), and Jennifer (Jennifer Government). I love how authors create such authentic characters that I can actually picture myself having conversations with them.
Edward would make an excellent sidekick for all situations (and then some). :)

Nice list! I would love to hang out with Atticus Finch; as well as Elizabeth Bennett (from Pride and Prejudice), Ender Wiggin (from Ender's Game), and Cadfael (from Ellis Peters' mystery series). :D
Jennifer is a good choice! she kicked serious butt in the book!
I would so love the Doctor to be my sidekick... although I don't think he'd like it. :D
Thursday Next, from the Jasper Fforde books. Then we could jump in and out of books!
Commander Sir Samuel Vimes of the Ankh Morpork City Watch.

He is a key character in many Terry Pratchet novels.
Queen Isabella from The Queen's Cross by Lawrence Schoonover...that girl has some guts!
