If you could would you open your own bookstore?

Keeping track of books is fun. Writing about books and reading them could give others an idea of what a book is about. I got to thinking of what it would be like to open a bookstore. Not just to get people to come in and buy, but to get them to read more.

 

If I had the money I'd open a very special store. What would you name the store and what would you sell, like what kinds of books. Most used bookstores only sell the most popular books. They try to get more books by buying them from others.

I would love to open my own bookstore!  Someday I will I am sure!  I can't tell you the name I hope for my store...But it comes from a book I love,

I would like to specialize in used and rare books.

 

I hope to have a place similar to the tv shows Black Books!  My fave show!

Name wise probably something like The Book Wyrm and we'd specialise in Fantasy/Science Fiction.  LOL

 

I'd like to have a coffee bar in there, a writers corner and have authors come in and utilise us as a place to talk about thier work as well as writing.  Anything to really promote the whole reading experience for all.

Definitely.  I would much rather do that if I could over anything else, but knowing me I'd read in the corner and wouldn't be a very convincing saleswoman.  LOL

Knowing me I'd be doing the same thing, but i'd still work. Would have to keep reading so that the people that come in and ask questions about a book, I might just be able to answer them.

I considered it, but became a librarian instead - it allows me to help shape the collection policies of libraries to help get my fellow authors on the shelves, pioneer library e-book acquisitions, and discover a lot of the distribution issues I wouldnt have known otherwise. If I became independently wealthy, I would open a bookstore focusing on poetry. The Surly Sonnet, or something equally obnoxious :)

I think that would be wonderful! To be able to have a wall of recommended reads and see that spark ignite when another person developes a love of books... magical!

 

For now I have an Amazon Store linked off my blog where people can pick up the books I have reviewed :) maybe someday I'll have more!
