Since my favorite book is Pride and Prejudice, I know that I would not be dressed appropriately.
People would probably have a difficult time understanding my English.
I would be very disappointed that I don't have a physical description of Mr. Darcy.
Oh yeah! And I would be completely and utterly terrified!
Dropped in my favorite book, huh? Well, my new surroundings would be Middle-earth. I am a hobbit in all but size, but I doubt that I'd be dressed for it either no matter who I was among. Except maybe the Ents because I don't think they care what someone is wearing. I'd flag down the nearest man, elf, dwarf, or wizard to direct me toward Gondor. :) Might be a bit excited and scared, but in a good way, I think!
Well said! If I was dropped somewhere in the shire, I think I would be pretty happy. On the other hand, if I was dropped in the middle of one of the many battles throughout the LOTR, my reaction would be much different. :)
One of my favorite recent books was The Ghost In Love by Jonathan Carroll. I would probably be very confused, possibly dead, and talking a dog which would be very interesting as well as enlightening. I might even decide that I would not want to die and living a little longer than usual.
If I was dropped in the setting of my favorite book I'd be terrified. My surroundings would be modern America and I'd be in the company of a pill popping transsexual, an ex infomercial model with half her face shot off, and an ex cop being blackmailed by the transsexual.
It's complicated.
My favorite book is Invisible Monsters by Chuck Palahniuk.
I would love this to happen. I would be dropped into To Kill a Mockingbird. From the moment that Scout first entered my life....I knew that I had met my book character soul mate. She is me and I am her.
Every time I read Pride and Prejudice I wonder what it would be like to be there and have Lizzy as a friend. I definitely wouldn't mind if a little of her rubbed off on me.
Too many awesome books here. How am I supposed to pick a favorite!! lol. Like, I'd love to be dropped down in the middle of Garth Nix's Lirael, provided a could chose when or where. (Can I? What are the rules on that.) I want to see Charter Magic for myself.
I'd LOVE to drop into Pride and Prejudice. Can I be Elizabeth? Otherwise Mr. Darcy will scowl at me and turn away. (Leaving me devastated, of course!)
This thread reminds me of Jasper Fforde's Thursday Next novels.
The only real trouble with being dropped into a book is that it would be way too intense. Too much dramatic conflict, lol. Stuff I want to read about, but I'm not sure I want to live in the middle of. (I like the hot cocoa part of reading, lol, with the enthralling adventure--and my racing heart--in the book!)
lol... no rules. I know if I could choose I would drop into Pride and Prejudice in the middle of a dance with Mr. Darcy. Unfortunately, he's so picky with his dance partners.
