Inbox Spam

With the risk of becoming massively unpopular here on Book Blogs I'd like to take a moment to rant a little.

I'm really really annoyed about the constant spam in my inbox. There seems to be an idea here that it's totally legit to constantly send out these mass mails to everybody you've befriended, whether or not you know them the slightest or have ever talked to them. Content? Complete and utter look-at-me, look-at-what-i-have-here please-like-my-stuff, please-click-here-and-here-and-here etc. Basically - PR. Annoying PR. It's like a bad newsletter I didn't sign up for and there aren't any ways of getting rid of with - well without unfriending and blocking messages. Which I'll be frank, I have done in the past. Because seriously. I missed on an important email in that inbox because it was drowned in a string of spam.
Because that's another thing. To all you newcomers and oldies - there are two different ways to reply to an email. Reply-to-All or Reply-to-Sender. Consider this the next time you hit reply. Is your reply really so vital that all the unfortunate souls on that mailing lists must see it?

 

I'm not pointing any fingers here, but I think something should be done.

 

So in conclusion, I'm a ranty person and I believe there are people out there who should stop abusing the mailing system of this community. All attention is not good attention. There are plenty of groups and forum posts where you can showcase all your stuff.

Remember that you can go to Settings and then Email to control what messages go to your personal email. That should help with making sure you don't miss anything important. Also, if you are overwhelmed by your inbox here with email spam, I don't see a problem in defriending and blocking. Hopefully, it sends a message to those members and benefits everyone in the process.

With over 12,000 members no one person can police everything here. My spam is not your spam necessarily. I've made this community work for me by adjusting my settings so that I get important messages from this network in my personal email and I ignore my inbox here with all the "spammy" threads. Hope this helps!
