As an author and book reviewer myself, I've had a difficult time getting book reviews for my self-published books. Some reviewers are even downright rude about it. So I started an online list of reviewers that accept self-published books. The best of these is POD People and The Midwest Book Review, both of them are highly respected and the "Big Fish" in the self-publishing world. Neither accepts a fee to review. None of the reviewers on the list below are fee-charging.

So far I've spent about 80 hours (now) hundreds of hours putting this list together. Every reviewer on this list has agreed to accept (or focuses exclusively on) Self-Published Books. Contact me if you want to add a reviewer to the list. It has to be a reviewer that is currently accepting submissions.

Please post your blog link if you are willing to review indies and small press authors. I will contact you and you can also be included in the small press "yellow pages" that we are working on. I've uploaded the reviewer questions in a word doc.

We have used Google Alerts to find reviewer blogs for our genre: children's books. We explore the reviewer's site, and send an email, if they seem appropriate, inviting them to read one of the books in our Planet Of The Dogs series of illustrated fantasy-adventure, early reader books.

We suggest that they visit our website, www.planetofthedogs.net,for sample chapters; and, our blog, http:/barkingplanet.typepad.com, for more information on concepts and our involvement with therapy reading dogs.

Then, if they are interested, we ask them to email us a postal address and we send them books with a letter and a flyer.

We are now an independent small press. We are members of IBPA and IPNE.

We will follow up using those bloggers on your list who are children's book reviewers. Thank you this information.

Hi Robert!

Hope all is well. And I just wanted to say that you are one of the few Self-published authors that we've reviewed on our site, and that's because you were professional and pleasant and knew what you were doing. Your advice about your website was right-on. I don't know about Don these days, but Steph and I won't agree to look at anything without a sample chapter. There's just too little time and too many reading options.

Pam

Dear Pam T,

Thanks very much for your comment. I believe BooksforKids stands out for the quality of the writing and reviews. Therefore, it meant a lot to us to have the Planet Of The Dogs series reviewed by Don. We quote Don and BooksforKids-reviews often in our marketing and PR efforts.

Best wishes,
Robert

I'll review self-published. Some of them are quite good, and either way I like to help out indie authors.
Hello, Melydia

Do you review ebooks? If so, check out my website, www.russellparkway.com. I have the first five chapters of my action/thriller, Pandora's Succession available. Let me know it this would work for you.

Best,

Russell
Hi Christy,

I've only requested three reviews so far, but I haven't gotten responses yet. One problem I'm having is classification. My book is about goofy goings-on in a church. I didn't think I was writing a Christian novel, but some readers say it is, while others disagree. I don't even know how to tag it! LOL

Thanks, this is VERY helpful!

Mari
Christy,

This is an awesome thing you've done. I thank you for it, both as an author and as a reader. I know that there are a lot of poor quality self-published books, but there are also some pretty great ones! The face of publishing is changing fast and I can't help but wonder if POD technology is going to be the wave of the future. It's just a hunch and a guess.
Please add me to your list.
