I know, I know. I am a book reader. A lover of all things fiction and hardcover and papery. But I am tempted and seduced by these fancy-shmancy electronic reading devices! Before the rotton food starts flying in my general direction, let me explain...

I'm thinking of purchasing either a Kindle or a Sony E-Reader and I'd like to know if anyone else has one, which they prefer, how well they work, and anything else you may have heard. I said I'm just THINKING, stop with the tomatos and corn already!!! I am not betraying my bookcase, or the number of books I still wish to buy, I'm just thinking that for those books that are not as integral to my collection, I could download them instead of actually buying them, thus preserving the small amount of space left on my bookcases. Ugh, it's so hard to think of any book that I would rather download than have to own!!!

Don't judge me. I haven't purchased yet. And you know you want one.

I am not very tech-y so the latest gadgets really don't make me drool or want to run out and buy one. I am basic, I also am not an audiobook kind of gal either. I like to read and close my eyes and think.

Anywho, back to the topic at hand, don't forget Barnes and Noble has their E-Nook. From what I read it sounds great for those that like Ebooks. From some of the people I know, they love their Kindle. Too bad their wasn't a way to touch them, see them, all 3 in the same place then you can really KNOW if you want one!
Oooh I just looked at the Nook and it's fabulous and colorful and it's called a Nook, how cute is that?!
I just pre-ordered a nook. I read on average 3 books a week; so tired of carrying all those hard cover books.
I have a kindle, that I absolutely love. I am happy to answer any questions you have! I chose the kindle over the sony at the time solely because of the whispernet/wireless store capabilities. I haven't been disappointed yet :)
I was recently looking at the Kindle v. Sony discussions trying to figure out what's best for me. Now the Nook is drawing me in. It seems to be addressing some of my concerns ... and the fact that Amazon just dropped the kindle price to $1 less than the retail for the Nook tells me something, too.
I broke down and invested in a Kindle, and I like it. It will never replace a real book. I use it primarily for authors that I haven't read yet but am interested in checking out. I like the convenience of being able to get a book the day it is released, especially since I moved to an area and don't have access to a local bookstore. You can adjust the font on it, which is why I will be investing in one for my mother, who has been looking for large print books, of which the selection is limited. The only two drawbacks I have found are: 1. The formatting tends to be be off if the books are e-only, and 2. The screen bleaches out if you are in the direct sunlight.
I don't have either, I have my Ipod Touch and I love reading books on it. But I like it because I can do other things besides read, like go on the internet or play a game. It works for me!
Hi Everyone!
Well Alayne, I would wait until you can check out The Nook. I have a Kindle and love it! I also have a Sony eReader so I can access ePub books... The Nook looks like it's going to combine the best of both worlds- the Kindle and the Sony. And Barnes & Noble is suppose to have them in the stores to look at before you purchase, something I with Amazon would authorize with some retail outlet....

Always plenty of discussion with us book lovers about these eReaders! I still buy books, but eReaders definitely have their place. The Nook looks like the first real competition for the Kindle (and kind of looks like one too!) Stop by Chick with Books to look at some of the comparisons of The Kindle and Nook this week.
I'm too old fashioned to like reading anything that doesn't have actual pages. For fast reading of as many books as possible, I guess ebooks or Kindle is great. But to enjoy a book, neither fits the bill.
Um. I have a small HP mini laptop, which Im using frequently. No hardcover books here for a looong time.

But, one can always hope for a Kindle on once birthday ;-) Although it´s a bit sad that the Kindle is bound to Amazon. Can you still use a memory card or something to insert your own virtual library?

My blog
From what I've learned, you can use a memory card with the Nook but not the Kindle. I have a mini, but I'd never really considered using it for e-books. Thanks for the idea!
I've heard of people also viewing movies on the kindle, but don't quote me, I'm not sure about that as I don't have a kindle. What I do have is Kindle for iPhone and I love it. Mostly because I can download e-books that are free and read them at my leisure. The app was free and I have it on my iPod Touch. :)
