That's one thing I never really thought about but today I hit it. I know others on here have blogs at Blogger so I thought I'd let you know that there's a limit of 2000 labels. I had the fun of going through posts to remove a few labels. Apparently I've been label happy so be careful on what you label. So instead of having a label for the book title you might decide to just use the author instead. I'm not sure if I've got so many labels because I also do a few paid posts over there along with the book post and TV posts.

I don't know how many I have. I do know that blogger sometimes won't let me put up certain tags, but will instead insist on putting up a string that I'd used before, but don't want to use at that time. It lets me do other words, though.

If you have the labels on your sidebar all you have to do is go to layout and click on the label button to find out how many you have. Strange but when I looked just now it said 1933. I just found it odd that they have a limit on them. I seem to be a label slut and I've only had the blog for about two and a half years.
lol yeah I've learned to be conservative with my labels over the years since my personal journal at livejournal has a label limit (since I'm an unpaid member) and I had to go through all the labels about two years ago to cut back and fit the ones I wanted. I don't actually label by author or title, I label by genre only with special tags for random things (contests and such) since I archive all my entries elsewhere anyhow.

but thank you! good to keep in mind!
I have reached the 2000 label limit. I have not gone back and changed things yet. I might do it soon. It is rather interesting. I don't do any paid posts. It just hits a wall after a while. Any suggestions on how to optimize my labels in this situation would be helpful.
I would remove all labels to individual authors and book titles, unless you're a raving fan and you talk about the same author all the time. I think I only have about 100 labels for both my blogs, and the only author label I use is for Aaron Shepard. I think it's better to organize a blog according to genre and sub-genre. If you really want to search a blog for a particular post, Google search does a great job.

2000? Are you kidding? How could you find anything you're looking for that way? As far as I"m concerned, you should only be labeling genres, topics you read books about a lot, memes, events, stars etc...

I have 129 and I think that's too much sometimes. The longer my label cloud, the harder it is to find the topic someone wants. I put all my memes and events under memes_events. I change labels around quite often as I find ones that could be together or ones that should be separate.

There's no point in labeling author and title. You're only ever going to have one post for each title.

On wordpress I know they have tags and categories I think it's called. One is like labels on blogger and the other is where you would label by author and title and such so that if anyone searches wordpress blogs for any category they would find any posts matching that on any blog.
