LOVE IN SPACE, a “sweet” romantic revisiting of my erotic short novel, Lust in Space, will be featured on the HSN (on television) on Monday, September 14, along with several other phenomenal paperbacks. For show times, or to view the beautiful romance collections available before or after the airdate (or if you don't get HSN) go to:

I’m so pleased to be a part of HSN’s romance novel debut. The stories are top-notch, the covers are breathtaking, and the prices can’t be beat. If you’ve been curious about my fast-paced space trek, my homage to the great sci-fi space shows of our time, but do not read explicit erotica (or are curious about the new adventures I have added for the colorful and diverse crew of Pandora’s Hope), you’ll not want to miss Love in Space.

About Love in Space

Captain Nora Bradley has full intentions of keeping her relationship with former classmate, and now First Officer, Robert Smith, purely professional, when she hires him. The two, along with a crew of top professionals in their fields, embark on a journey into regions of space not yet charted.

Along the way, the crew endures a space flu that puts the entire ship in fevered frenzy, alien races that change the crews’ perceptions of size, compatibility, and companionship, and hitchhiking shape-shifters that will do just about anything to keep their sensuous human forms. As the crew endures, Nora and Robert find it increasingly difficult to hide their love from one another. Once they profess it, however, can their love survive a mix-up with the shape-shifters, the unexpected takeover of their ship, and intergalactic war?

I'm a loyal lurker of the Absolute Write forums and I saw this in the Ravenous Romance section. Jamaica Layne was talking about it.

I heard it was a success but I hope that EACH author whose book was featured gets a fair chunk of that money. You gotta watch pubs when they get into these types of ventures. It's a great opportunity if the authors get all that's coming to them. I heard you guys sold at least 6,000 copies.

Some folks have been grumbling because RR decided to "clean-up" the books for HSN. Many think it's misleading (not me, I don't read romances so it doesn't matter to me). But with folks saying this, I hope it doesn't backfire with the RR authors and their audiences because of this. Faithful erotic readers (especially those for RR) don't like when erotic books are cleaned up for any purpose. It's like selling out. Of course, you guys didn't have control over this but I'm sure you all have wondered about the issue too. Personally I think if HSN was gonna have the balls to sell RR books, they should have sold them like they were originally written. Some people might not read erotica, and believe RR is just a regular romance pub by that advertisement. Then when they go to the site and see the "real" books, they are shocked. It happens and I would just be concerned about the backlash of it all. Why? Because most times it's the authors that always get the brunt of the heat or left in the cold when corporate makes the decisions. I also have heard that many RR authors didn't appreciate their books being censored for the project.

I hope you sold a lot of books and wish you continued success!

Best Wishes,

Thanks so much for your thoughtful reply, Stacy. I have no idea what the HSN figures are as of yet, but I am very excited about the venture.

I really didn't feel like I was selling out at all when I rewrote Lust in Space for the new venue. The story was so much fun, and it actually disturbed me that I had ended up alienating (no pun intended) much of its potential audience by making it so highly erotic and kinky. I initially wrote it to push my own boundaries--too see just how far I could take both the sci-fi and the erotic elements, without going too far--but the final product ended up being so much more than I had anticipated. When RR approached me about the HSN venture, I jumped on the chance to redraft Lust in Space for a more mainstream audience. It really is a story that all episodic sci-fi space drama fans can appreciate (I'm a huge fan of the sub-genre, myself). The redraft proved so vastly different from the original, Ravenous Romance and I both agreed that a name change was in order: Love in Space.

I'm currently holding a small contest over at the RR site blog, asking for readers to send input and feedback on their preferences between the two versions. I'll be very curious to see which of the two readers prefer, and I'm offering a free copy of any one of my other RR e-books to the reader with the most insightful or helpful response.

I agree that there should be made a clear distinction between RR's erotic romance and its more mainstream romance. I will send an e-mail to RR, because I think you made a great point about reader expectations based on books bought at HSN. Thanks again, and take care.
