Would anyone out there have some good tips about becoming and staying a motivated blogger? Probably like so many, I started out with the best of intentions. Alas, all these other things like work, sports training and needing to take time out just to relax have overtaken the desire to engage regularly with blogging. I don't want to be glued to the computer, but if anyone knows what motivates them to blog often and is willing to share, that'd be great.
I love blogging but like you it is hard to find the time. But to make things easier for myself I make a list of ideas I want to get done and then set aside at least 5 hours of "blogging time" in my calendar. And I do as so many has suggested: schedule a post. (That takes time off my hands) And then I schedule a day to read through other blogs. I actually hate being glued to the computer. And I get frustrated so quickly.
The motivation comes in how much you enjoy what your blogging about.. You will find time then..
Hi Ms. Tiptress, there's certainly something to be said for enjoying what you're doing and letting that be a source of motivation. I'll need to work on that. Thanks for your comment!
I stick with a weekly blog, usually on Fridays. I will either post about writing aspets, snippets of memories that others can use for stories or author interviews. I love author interviews. You don't have to work so hard being creative. I have several interviews in the queue and post them when something else isn't taking precedent. Don't get too bogged down, but use the KISS principle. I change the appearance of the blog around every now and then to keep it fresh. Don't forget to use your social networks, like this one to promote you blogs. Don't forget to check out others' and leave comments. They, in turn, should check out yours.
Hi Stephen, I definitely like the idea of keeping it simple! It's probably all too easy to rush in and make something complicated, when a little planning to be organized might go a long way and have better results. Good idea re the social networks. Thanks for the good advice.
Staying focused in regards to your blog can be challenging. If you are passionate about the information you want to share try to post regularly. I post once a week. If the need hits me I do it more. I have a lot going on too but I make a point to post regularly and I hope that my content is what my followers want to read.
You can stay ahead of posts by submitting them and Blogger and Wordpress allow you to set the date and time your content will become public. Its great. You could write all of your content in one week and schedule it to post later. Good luck and have fun.
Hi Kristi, there's definitely a recurring theme re finding something that I want to blog about as a strong motivation to stay on the game. Thanks for taking the time to comment Kristi!
Hi Ben, some interesting stuff there. I think from sitting back and assessing the advice in this discussion and my own situation, I'd say I'm focused on being interested in what I do and doing more of that instead of finding ways to reduce the 'work'. Possibly not oddly, I want to be more hands on, and I think the recurring theme of working on something that really motivates me is one of the really important ones. It's a simple idea, but lost easily in fray it seems. Thanks for commenting Ben!
