I'm looking for some critical feedback on the bookcover for my novel The Consigliere. Sales have stagnated. and yet, those who have read it have given positive feedback. I realize that competition is fierce in my thriller/crime genre. Because of this I wonder if I might be losing sales for poor packaging. Here's a link to my site where the cover to The Consigliere can be seen. I realize that we're all very busy, but I'm hopeful that a few of you will take a moment to give me your opinion.
While you're there an opinion on the cover of my upcoming novella, The Perfect Martini would be appreciated.
In advance, Thank you

Hello. I'll tell you what my first impressions of the book were from just looking at the cover. It looked light-hearted, fun, perhaps something about self-reflection or from the eyes of someone inexperienced or young. It looked like a good cover, but didn't scream: crime, suspense, drama, mystery, or anything like that. I never would have guessed it was a thriller by the cover (please keep in mind that I don't normally read this genre so my experience is limited).
Personally, I would suggest something that shows the conflict between the two crime families, his past, etc. Something that shows mystery, danger and perhaps leaves you wondering just what could happen to come up with this image.
Okay, now I'm starting to sound like a crazy person so I'll stop. Hope that made sense and helps.

I appreciate you taking the time. Now I just need the right cover design. Thanks
Mario- I took a look at your book's cover. Good use of the image, but I don't really care much for the font. I also think there's too much white space at the top, and I don't like the textured backdrop behind the title and your name. I would like to see the title in a bolder, bigger font, perhaps even in an arched shaped to mimic the feel of the photo. I also don't normally read crime or suspense, but this book did not strike me as being in that genre based on the cover alone. Hope this helps!

Thank you. About as I expected. I will need to find a new designer. Any recommendations would be helpful. Again, Thanks
I often times pick my books based on thier cover- your cover just doesn't seem to match your book content.
Aside from the cover, I would also sum up your synopsis. If readers have to read more then a paragraph to get the sense of the book, they may discount the book as wordy and boring before they pick it up.
Best of luck!

I think the immediate problem with your cover is that it looks a little dated. I think this is partly due to the font chosen (as someone has already mentioned) and another part - for me, a big part - is the way the border is used around the main image. The image itself is really strong.
I'm a newbie cover designer and if you load up a high-res version of that main image I'd take a crack at designing you a new cover for free. If you like it and use it, maybe you could point people in my direction - and if you don't, no hard feelings! Glad of some practice.
In the meantime, I think this is a really good site for getting some inspiration: http://bookcoverarchive.com/
With best luck,
SCD

Thanks, I appreciate you taking the time, can i send you a new idea that I have thought about, and see what you can do with it, or send me your ideas.
