Hey all. I've only been blogging for about a little over a month, and am trying to gain more followers. Just wondering if anyone has any advice as to what I should/shouldn't do in order to get my blog more noticed?

Thanks for your help!

Honestly, I have found that the more you put yourself out there (visit other blogs, join in on weekly memes, and commenting on others posts) is the best way to get your blog scene.  If people feel like you took the time to check out theirs, they will be more willing to check out yours!  I am following you now, check me out at http://everydayadventure11.blogspot.com

Thanks!

Lindsay,

I have the same problem!  I have found, though, that more people read my blog than I can tell by just looking at my followers.  I also feed my blog updates to my Facebook account, so a lot of people who follow me there don't bother following my blog, which means even something like Google metrics don't help!

What I do on facebook is just post a message about what I added to my blog with a link (I also do this with twitter).
I would also suggest putting your link in every signature/profile you have. If you belong to any message boards or other types of social networking websites.  Like Goodreads, Spark People, etc...
The best way is to develop relationships with other bloggers by visiting their blogs and leaving interesting and thoughtful comments. There are also a lot of popular memes that you can participate in and which will bring other participants to your site.

I seem to have noticed a number of blogs where the number of followers jumps considerably when they run giveaways, personally I think just joining in the conversation, wherever and whenever the oportunity arises will slowly and steadily grow your followers, afterall you want people to follow because they like your blog and love the content not becaude of what they might win.

I have only recently returned to blogging but on my old blog the number of followers grew steadily over time, sometimes just putting up a link to someone else's cool post would result in a blogger reciprocating and next thing I knew my blog was getting more exposure and as a result new followers.   Just keep the conversation going and interesting and followers will grow.   Enjoy the blogging process and don't stress to much over whoose following, oh and of course there are a number of groups here that will help with networking.

Goodluck, just going to check out your blog now.

Those are my thoughts exactly. I'd rather have followers who enjoy reading my posts than those who follow for a follow-back or possible win.
join a blog hop and give away something really cool. Give double points if they follow your blog.
I do not have many followers listed on mine but I know my blog is well visited, a meter counts the visitors and for amateur reviewer who doesn't give anything away and is not being paid to do so I am quite please...although I will take the advise and leave my paws on those I do visit.....

I would create a facebook page to go along with your blog.  My page is doing pretty well with over 1000 fans but I'm a facebook junkie and don't stray from there.  Some people also create twitter pages, goodreads accounts, and blogspot accounts.  It just depends on how many different places you want to be responsible for!!.  Hope that helped and please check out my blog page at www.facebook.com/Bookiesfan

Run giveaways always helps. But you need to be active on other social sites, twitter, start a facebook fan page, hootsuite, tumbler, stumbleupon, digg, delicious. You need to get your blog out there as much as possible. The very best way is to be a commenter. I've found when you comment on other people's blog, a majority will respond by going to your blog and commenting on your post. It's a courteous reciprocation of comments. I spend about 2 hours everyday commenting on other people's blog. If they don't reciprocate after about a week or two, I unfollow or unsubscribe to their blogs. I think it support should go both ways. And the other good way, do blog hops atleast twice a months with other bloggers.
