I am new to posting and since I will be reviewing books I am wondering if you let me know how you get the books that you review. I will be reviewing older books and I have many in my library, but I would also like to get copies of books prior to them being released. Do you contact the publishers or is there a site where you sign up. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am also looking for ideas on how to get followers on my site as it is new.

Thanks

Hi Leslie,

I finally located your blog, using the link at the beginning of your thread. The one given in your 25 July post is slightly different and doesn't work - hence the confusion!

If you would like the attachment of the book, please let me have an email address to send it to.If you would prefer a hard copy for review, perhaps you would care to let me have a mailing address?

My email once again is whiteraven001@hotmail.com

I look forward to hearing from you.

Hi Mark,
The information is on my website under book reviews. pdf is fine to begin with.
Thanks,
I sent the pdf copy of the book to your email address today. Perhaps you would just drop me a line to let me know you got it?

Thanks

Mark Whiteway
Mark - I don't know if you finally got on her website - but the http on her address is probably incorrect. it should be http://www.Wrighton-time.com. Unless there is now a hhtp beginning code.

Thanks Tina. I did finally figure out that the address she was quoting was not correct, and I found her website. Leslie has given me a fine review for my first book and is now reading my second!

Sometimes you have to wait awhile before getting books prior to their release. Just plug away, really put an effort into your site, experienced bloggers can spot a "in it for free books" person a mile away, so just visit other websites, comment on posts, write good reviews, and your chance will come. Plus there's groups here you can join as well!
You may be surprised at just how many new books you might find at your local library. If you are unhappy with your library's collection then ask them if they let people make purchase selections and make some requests! I may be biased because I work in a library, but all of the books that I got for review over the past week are from the library. Getting Advanced Reader Copies is definitely cool but with all of the books that I have borrowed from the library and impulsively purchased of my own initiative I actually feel little need to pursue ARCs, but that's just me.

If you are comfortable with ebooks, I have recently started using NetGalley.com and my experience with it so far has been pretty good. There are some pretty good ebooks on there that you can request, including many ARCs.

Also keep an eye for competitions and giveaways. There are lots of great opportunities out there to win some great books.

As for followers, visit other people's blogs and leave interesting comments. Try be active in book discussion communities and sites such as GoodReads, Library Thing, Amazon, etc. I also created a Twitter account to tweet about books and blogging and network with other bloggers, readers, and authors and get a few hits from there. At the end of the day, however you get people to visit your blog, it will be interesting and quality content that gets them to follow and keep coming back.

Hi, Leslie, and welcome. I've done a lot of what Marty suggests, but I had a little of a head start when I finally started a blog. I'm a journalist by trade and was already on the mailing lists of PR companies who email me press releases about upcoming releases. Sometimes I automatically get books in the mail because I've worked with the publisher or publicist before and they know I normally review that certain type of book. There are media lists that I belong to where I have my contact information listed and where it will potentially be published. These are lists that public relations professionals use so they can specifically target the right media person. I would have to search my email to come up with a name as none come to me right now, but if you do a search you should be able to find a couple that are free to sign up on even for freelancers or bloggers.

There are a couple of companies/publishers that have book reviewers programs (Thomas Nelson is one) and once you sign up you are then free to choose from what they have available. It's not mandatory, but if you choose a book then you are obligated to write a review (whether negative or positive) and post it on your blog, a retail site and submit the link to them.

Find the avenue that works best for you and go from there. It can be confusing and overwhelming to have too many going at once. Oh, and a word of advice, when you do make a request from an author - or anyone - be sure to say that you are "considering" their book for review. You don't want to guarantee a review unless that's the policy you're going to commit to.

Good luck, have fun and happy reading! :-)
Thank you Petula,
I really appreciate your reply as well as your ideas. I know this takes a lot of work to accomplish and any advice is extremely helpful. Thank you and good luck to you as well.

I get the books from Thomas Nelson (booksneeze.com) and have never been disappointed. They are usually religious books.
HI Danielle, that would be a great favor. Also would you also send me a link to your blog, I would love to follow. My email address is on the review page of my blog. Thank you so much for the reply and the extremely helpful comments.
Hi Leslie! If you contact publishers they will send you a list of books in the works. :)

I would love for you to review my books, if you are interested, though they are already released. One of them is a nonfiction self-improvement, and the other one a novel of paranormal suspense. The novel won the 2010 International Book Award for multicultural fiction, and it is part of the Hooked on Book campaign, an effort sponsored by Books for Good to benefit the Gulf region. Let me know if you are interested. :)
