On what may very well bring the death of the Book Blogs Ning

SPAM! Lots and lots of spam.

Well, the rules are up and still the spamming goes on ! Contests listed at a publisher's site for a book that has nothing to do with that publisher. What is the next step?
Contact the moderator of the group. Tell him/her that the group experience is being deterred from such postings and it's in their best interest if they managed their group instead of letting it be a free for all. They honestly might not even know that can delete postings, ban members, etc.
I'll second this-- I contacted a forum owner who didn't realize she could do that, and was quite happy to do so.

It will take a while for word to spread, but I think it will get there. Thank you to everyone involved in publishing the new rules document.
I think it's time to bump this thread again. The groups for specific publishers (Hatchette, Pocket and Sourcebooks) are being filled with posts of promotions for giveaways and reviews by books NOT published by these publishers.
I know it has been getting very annoying. Every time I check my mailbox, there are 10-20 messages from Book Blogs groups that are the same message over and over again. Needs to be stopped.
Ditto Grace & Jaime.

How can I help stop the spamming? I don't even post anything here anymore, unless it's to sign up for stuff. No links to giveaways, reviews, or anything... All of it's on my member page, and it's doing just fine over there. =)

Natasha--Thanks for bringing this up. I probably skipped Book Blogs for a month or so because I got so sick of all the spam. But I don't want to unsubscribe, because then I'd miss when Sarah or Miriam or Valerie or Anna or Caitlin post something I do want to look at, ykwim?
It would have to be the moderators of the groups to stop it. That's why I bumped this thread, I don't know if those who are posting their reviews and giveaways in HBG and Pocket's pages are new, but figured this could probably be a good reminder. I rarely post my reviews/giveaways here too. I used to but not so much anymore.

I agree, I stay subscribed to HBG and Pocket's groups so I can get notified when they start a new blog tour and I don't want to miss out.
Don't forget that you can control the emails you receive in your settings. Hope that helps!
Yes, there is a lot of spam on here. I've had someone write on my wall several times, but only to speak about her best selling book, and she did this several times. I politely wrote on her wall telling her, nice to meet you, this is the third time you've informed me of your book. I received a response back apologizing. Is there any way I can delete that from my wall, heck she didn't even introduce herself to me, you know??
There is a little x in the right hand corner of the post that will delete the message.
I don't visit the groups so I can't comment on the spam in them, but I think it's not as bad in the inbox. I still get messages from folks wanting people to visit their blogs and authors looking for reviews, but it's gotten much better. I know for a fact the administrators of the group have gotten rid of some spammers. There was a bunch of people, one guy in particular who was spamming folks about his book a while back. He had about three threads in the discussion forum dedicated to his book. The next thing I know, his profile was gone. So were some others who never participated but spammed constantly.

Best Wishes!

I agree the emails have certainly gotten better. Oh yes, the guy with the Love Boat Lulu book was sooo annoying. It was crazy.

It's in the groups dedicated to publisher's where it started up again just promoting their giveaways and reviews of books not published by those publishers.
