This review is from: ROLL CALL ~ A Prison List (True Prison Story) (Kindle Edition)
I was very honored to have the author read one of my other book review and asked if I would also read his. I agreed and it took me a good three weeks, I read the Kindle version but it is equal to over 700 pages. To say the least the book is intense.
We have all seen movies of what life is like in prison. They pale when compared to this true life account. I must warn you up front the drug addiction, violence, and some sexual content may not be suitable for some readers. This is a step out of my usual type of read. My eyes have been opened.
B.J. the main character (the author) has a very bad start in life and soon realizes he and his bother have to be on their own. Unfortunately he finds that selling drugs is the fastest way to make money. I must say as a young teen going to Mexico to make drug connections when he really had no idea what he was doing was quite a brave move but obviously the wrong one. He falls in with a bad crowd including the law who are working both sides of the fence. Makes one see why drugs are such a big problem when the law, the mafia, drug dealers mix.
This is a very detailed account of how B.J. progresses into his life of crime. Your heart will be pounding during a big drug deal and the law chasing them down. You feel bad for the kid but know he is doing wrong. His first time in prison is a real eye opener. The crime inside the prison is as bad as it is outside. The racial wars and the hatred one group has for another is very disturbing. I learned a lot of prison language I had never heard before and was shocked right off in the communication system between prisoners.
Through all of this you may be a bit overwhelmed but when you see that God has a plan for B.J. what you have hoped for all along it is a story of hope and redemption. This book would be a book to give teens who are starting to get in trouble, I do think with this picture to look at some may mend their ways. Sadly it seems a certain percent of people live to get into the prison system.
Just about every emotion and life situation plays into this story. As I said it is a long read so I will not spoil the transformation part of his life it is a time of great happiness when you see the story change for the good. Again, it is graphic in nature do to the places and crimes involved.
Thanks Glenn, these truths need to be out in the open and I hope many lives will be turned around by your willingness to share.

Rea of Hope by W.J. May Tour

Stop by my blog today and check out my review of Rae of Hope, as well as read my interview with W.J. May!

Summary:

How hard do you have to shake a family tree to find out the truth about the past?

Fifteen-year-old Rae Kerrigan never questioned her family’s history. That is, until she accepted a scholarship to Guilder Boarding School in England. Guilder is an exclusive, gifted school. Rae has no idea what she is getting herself into or that her family’s past is going to come back and haunt her.

She learns she is part of an unparalleled group of individuals who become inked with a unique tattoo (tatú) on their sixteenth birthday. The tatú enables them to have supernatural powers particular to the shape of their ink-art. Both of her parents were inked, though Rae never knew as they passed away when she was young. Learning about her family’s past, her evil father and sacrificial mother, Rae needs to decide if there is a ray of hope in her own life.
