Okay, I am trying to promote my books but I am having a little problem because (horror upon horror) I refuse to join Facebook (and ditto for Google+, though you can find me in Twitter and Goodreads). What can I say? I am shy, I am a private person and I find Facebook to be totally intrusive. Anyway, I am having a hard time trying to find resources for those of us who are Facebook-averse... any ideas?
And in case anyone is interested, you can find both my blog and my excerpts here:
and in Twitter:

Speaking as a blogger, I don't ever check out book promotions on facebook. I do however check out books that authors tweet about, or that get good reviews on blogs. So what I'm saying is I don't think it really matters that you're not on FB. If you need more blog exposure try contacting bloggers directly with review request, or you could work through a blog tour company most of which are inexpesnive and highly effective.

Hi Clea!
Please excuse the self-promotion, but I've actually put together a directory of places to promote your book(s) online. It has made top 10 on Amazon in the Marketing category and actually hit #1 on Amazon UK in the Reference Catalogue category. Take a look, read over the reviews. Maybe it will be helpful to you and the other authors here looking for places to promote. Most of the organizations listed do use Facebook and/or Twitter for promotional reach, but they don't require that the author be a member of those sites and you can interact with lots of the orgs through their individual external websites. Best wishes to you!

Face Book isn't the ideal place to promote books. It IS a good place to keep track of your professional friends and see how their careers are going.
You're on Book Blogs and there are many, many sites like this one where you get a page to decorate and post blogs on. I recycle all my blogs and post date them so they come up once a month without anymore effort on my part. With organization and recycling, you can get your info out to a wide variety of people and sites with very little effort. The idea is to first get name recognition and then make people "fans."
As for being shy, it is much better to be whoever you want via cyberspace. Just be INTERESTING. If you don't come across as interesting, people will assume your book is a yawn.
I think that facebook might get you a lot of traffic but as already pointed out, not necessarily readers...
Oh my, it's brutal getting anything exposed out there! (and I'm not talking genitals...)
