I review and recommend books on my blog. I have over 8,000 page views and many followers but sometimes I don't feel inspired to write on a daily basis. I send out an update about every ten days with alll the new posts and after that I feel like I can take a break. Do bloggers have to post daily? I feel guilty if I don't. Would love some opinions.

No, if you feel pressured to post daily then at some point the quality of the blog is going to go down. If you're not inspired, then don't write. I think as long as a blog is updated at least weekly then all is fine. I try to post at least 2-3 times a week, but even that isn't always possible (with real life butting in occassionally!).

Do remember that even if a book isn't released yet, you can still post a review in the run up to it's release... just as long as it's isn't too early.

Scheduling posts is a great idea too (as others have mentioend). For example, I have scheduled an interview to go up tomorrow while I'm at work as I don't think I'll have time to do post it before or after work. I hope to schedule another post for next week while I'm away in London too... It's a handy feature!

Do feel free to drop by my website - www.notesoflife.co.uk - and I will do the same.

Take care :)

Thankyou Nicki-ann and thankyou everyone who has taken the time to reply. Nicki-ann, I like your blog a lot. I wanted to follow but couldn't see how to do that..

I have learned so much from all these responses and appreciate all the good ideas shared. It's inspired me to write more  and  I  especially like the scheduling idea.

I responded to your question about creating and index for your reviews. The explanation is posted directly under your original comment.

Hi Joyce,

Thank you :) You can currently follow by email or RSS feed. The email option is on the right hand side under the links. I did have Google Friend Connect until they changed it so it was only for Blogspot blogs... I've yet to make up my mind wit that other follower app to go with.

Take care,

Nikki-ann @ www.notesoflife.co.uk

I started off writing every day on my blog and soon realized that if I didn't suffer from burnout and guilt, I'd surely run out of writing topics very, very fast. I switched to a three-day schedule, and then lapsed a bit, sometimes hitting it every four or five days. You can actually do it every week, if you want. What's important is that you announce your new posts when the time comes, unless you rely on a gazillion subscribers. But it never hurts to announce in new places, different sites, venues, groups and forums. The important thing to remember is, RELAX. This is your time and space, spend it happily and comfortably. Also, you're not competing with anyone for content and quantity. Your own pace will dictate your appearances.

I am someone who would really like to post much more often but I just do not have the time. I could not imagine posting once a day! It sees seem that the more I post the more hits I get so that is an additional motivator.

By the way, I checked out your blog, it is great. I really like your choice of books and topics! I am now a follower!

Boring, pointless posts annoy readers, and then they don't come back. So don't post on days when you have nothing to say.

You should also be aware, though, that when bloggers suspend posting for extended periods of time, readers don't bother to look in anymore. The moral, I think, is to make sure you've got something reasonably interesting to say reasonably often.

Hello,

Writing a blog daily is not necessarily important ( 2-3 times/week is sufficient in my opinion) But, these are the points that I look in a blog and those blogs do have very high traffic.

- Quaility

- Truth

- Insightful

- Writing points which no other blog has written before, which is novelty

- Being the first

- Well written

I hope it helps!
