The entertainment and publishing worlds have lost big talents in recent weeks - David Foster Wallace, Tony Hillerman, and now Michael Crichton.

I am a huge Crichton fan of all the media he worked in - Movies, TV, and especially Books. Crichton left an indelible mark on popular culture from "ER" to Jurassic Park. I remember reading Jurassic Park and imagining what it would look like as a movie, thinking how impossible it would be to translate Crichton's imagination onto the screen. But, along came another creative genius, Stephen Spielberg, who made it happen.

Are you a Crichton fan? What was your favorite book of his?

My son called to give me this news today, and he hardly ever calls. It mad us all sad, because Michael Crichton was the one author we all enjoyed. I think my favorite book of his is Rising Sun.
Wow, that goes to show the power of books when they can bridge inter-generational and familial communication and relationships.

I enjoyed Rising Sun, too. In fact had not thought of it until I read your post. It's funny how the passing of someone we didn't even know can effect us. I am really saddened about Crichton's passing. While I work at a book publisher, we are not Crichton's publisher.
I saw this earlier today and was shocked and saddened- with all the hoopla of the election I didn't discover this sad news until today. I remember reading his work very early on, Congo, the films, Sphere and Coma - all take me back to my high schools days when I read thick books overnight, loving both the medical and scientific aspects mixed in with the suspense and thrilling aspects of modern sci-fi and the luxury of having nothing to do but read for hours on end.
I was saddened to hear about Crichton's passing. I loved reading his books. For me there are those I read for review and then those I read for pure pleasure - Crichton fits into the pure pleasure category. I'm not sure I can say which is my favorite book.
